Ha ha looks great mate.
I've recently added 3 different lilies to my anoxic pond. Never had lilies before or even taken any notice of them in other ponds, but I'm like a kid at the moment running up the garden each morning to see if any of the leaves have reached the surface yet!
2 of them have around 5" left before reaching surface... Can't wait lol!
Then after that I'll be waiting for one to flower.
The leaves on all mine are tiny compared to yours so I guess they will grow once they've reached the surface?

the first leaves are usually small, then you get new larger ones as the water gets warmer.
i bought this as a big specimen lily in a massive 30 litre basket, thats so heavy it takes two of use to lift it LOL!
but i replanted it into a large bucket.
i got it from a place thats pretty local to me. they supply water gardens and nurserys
they are really mainly trade, so you have to call. but will sell to public if you know exactly what you want.
they have over 85 varieties of water lily growing in ponds.
Park Corner Aquatic Nurseries
mine is a Nymphaea Marliacea Carnea

They look great.
I bought a whole load of bare root plants from wetland-plants.co.uk
The lilies are Darwin (pink) and Hermine (white and yellow) but also they were doing a deal for unnamed lilies that had lost their tags... 2 for a tenner, but they actually sent 5 different ones.
Placed them a few weeks ago and some are sprouting tiny leaves that aren't really growing and others are firing leaves that are heading to the surface at a rate of around an inch a day.

Looking lovely them! Are all you boys running anoxic now then? If so, for how long now and how are finding it? Have you seen any water quality improvement?
Are you running anoxic in your top pond Fred it is that a separate system?

Wow really, wasn’t expecting you to say you don’t do water changes - have you ever had your water ICP and N-DOC tested? Be interesting to see what you different water parameters are like.
How’s your nitrate if your not doing water changes?

no mate I am not running anoxic filteration. I added the top pond with plants. so as to keep phosphates and nitrates down with using the plants in baskets
and it worked for my set up. I have thought about anoxic. but as it stands now. I don t need it. I wish I had installed it at the beginning with new pond syndrome. I had that bad for 18 months.
it would have helped. But now the pond is very mature. its ok as it is. so I am happy with that.

That's right chris. My setup handles the fish load as it is. Before adding the shower. But I don t know how close to that border line I am. So adding the shower gives me more scope so to speak. Plus I wanted more flow. And faster circulation on the pond. So decided to do the lot in a oner.
Pipes pumps and shower. After my build
I would advice everyone to go 2 inch or above on there returns. I threw money down the drain there lol. Old pressure pipe and fittings. 1 1/2 inch. You live and learn.
Should nt take the shower long to seed.
Being a mature pond lol

Only reason I went anoxic was to reduce water bill (£100+ per month).
And it has worked. Average nitrates pre anoxic were usually around the 40 mark despite 10% weekly water changes.
Now nitrates are between 5 and 20 (average 10) with no water changes.
I have not yet identified any other real benefits that obviously stand out, and phosphates are now higher due to the lack of water changes hence adding plants and lilies.
But my goal of reducing water changes was the main one and this has been achieved.
Haven't worked out the exact savings recently but they were circa £28 per month when last calculated.

yes mate watercress from tesco
i put some bits from a bag in there last week, and though the sun wilted them a bit at first they're shooting up now!
i had the same last pond i had a dozen or so koi in never looked twice at the lily.
this one got destroyed in 2 days last year and had to take it out...

i could do with getting my nitrates down a bit, to save horsing water through the pond to keep them in check...
the anoxic baskets could be an idea even replant my lily into one....
i thought to control nitrates with a veg filter it had to be massive... like half the size of your pond.
how much does your top pond help reduce nitrates?

There's bits all over the place about the subject in various threads.
There is one active thread at the moment in the water treatment section of the forum which I started after getting my first readings once the anoxic system kicked in.
