    Got a new plant!

What’s happening you loverly people! Got a new plant today for the pond to go along with my other two floating plants. I went for a funky cork screw rush which is prity funky! My question is .... should I be quarantining any new plants or treating them! I wouldn’t buy any fish from the place I bought the plant from as the fish always seem sick when I visit it. But plants are so hard to get at moment I thought I’d purchase the plant. Any help or ideas would be great! I don’t actually know what a plant can carry to the pond ie parasites etc ! Cheers

    Anne is right.

I bought a load of plants the other week. Some were bare root and others were just small.

I put each one in a bucket of tap water and sprinkled about a gram of PP into each bucket.

Left them there for about 6 hours just stirring every now and again.

Thought I might have killed them at that dosage but wanted to be certain nothing could infect my pond. Of the 12 or so plants about 9 of them are already sprouting new growth all over the place and the other 3 still look alive.

So that's what I'd do again in future, and I did that after getting advice from Fred, although he didn't say to use as much PP as I did.

Exactly as RS has said mate. Bit of pp.
I do mine every year in the top pond.
You can bring parasites to your pond with the plants.
In fact I would go as far as saying. Even brand new gear. Like filters. Media. 2nd hand ball valves. All that type of stuff.
When I had the qt built it was all new stuff.
I still pp it over night lol running through the system.
That's just me though. I want to protect my babys. Any time I can lol

Thanks Charco, I've been watching those videos and he does have some nice metallics. I was shocked at the colour transformations in some of them.

You can buy pp really cheap off eBay in pure granule form.

Just to update on my plants, one of the final 3, a lillie has started to sprout a leaf.

So that's at least 10 of the 12 plants that have survived the PP and I can't complain about that considering I only bought 7 plants but some were so small they doubled up on a few.

    Hi Charco,

It's clay here. A few streets away it all turns to chalk.

Not sure what clay is meant to be like but mine was full of stone, not dissimilar to MOT type 1.

Had to break it up with a fork before shoveling.

But every now and again there would be patches of pure soft red clay.

It's a good time to dig right now with pleasant weather and all the time we have on our hands. If you can't do it full time and have plenty of time start doing a couple of hours a day (which will hurt) and build up to 4 or 5 hours a day. You won't believe how fit you become. After I finished mine I couldn't believe how much my strength had improved and how much more stamina I had, but it's all worn off again now ha ha.
