Thread: Basket brackets

    Basket brackets

    Morning all.
I’ve got some planting baskets I’m making up and plan to suspend them over the side of the pond with some kind of bracket. They’ll weight about 10kg each so rather than stainless I was toying with using some aluminium flat.
I need some colour and greenery!!
Am I about to poison my fish using Ali and should I stick with stainless?
I’ve tried using plastic coated stainless wire but the baskets just squeeze together and don’t sit right.
    Any other genius ideas?
Getting them made might be an issue under the lockdown lol

I do think I read that aluminium is no good.
I think any metal apart from stainless steel can have potential for problems.

Have you got loads of time on your hands lol.
i was going to make some new ones up.

if you buy a small length of 160cm waste and chop it in half, if they do end caps get a couple for ends.

drill loads of holes or slots in it from about 4-5cm down from where you cut.

then get some black waste pipe and four elbows and make floating frame for the top.
screw through from inside the cut pipe into your waste pipe frame with a few stainless screws to hold float in place.
drill a couple of extra holes 15mm from top or loop it around waste pipe to tether it with some nylon cord.
    job done

Eeerrr...draw me a picture Si, can’t quite get my head round that lol
Maybe some black guttering with end caps would work instead of cutting 160mm pipe

Had an idea about using some black plastic waste pipe and 4 elbows.
Glue a couple of fixing brackets on the horizontal bit that rests on the coping stones and they won’t roll around.
Doesn’t mater if I need 3 supports instead of 2, once the reeds have grown up a bit it they won’t be seen.

Sent to you hope it makes sense.
gutter etc is to small the plants grow quite fast.
could try out of 110, you can get that in black so it would all look the same

and keep all soil to the min the roots will fill the pot

If you have no choice but to go for aluminium you could possibly get it powder coated.

My 4 pond covers (total dimensions 2.5m x 4.7m) were done for £20 so with your stuff you could probably ask if they can hang them up in the background while they powder coat something else and give em a drink.

Luckily I know a friendly powder coater
I have a tin of black flow-coat kicking around, reckon that might work as a finish?
