    pond plant pots

Hi all , I would like to add some plants into my pond this year but this is my problem.
My pond is nearly 6 feet deep and is gravity fed with a bottom drain so having a pot of lillies sat nearly 6feet down isint an option , also in my last pond where I did have lillies in pots the koi absolutely destroyed them and it was an endless struggle

can anyone recommend pots that either hang onto the pond or either float and also something that the koi cant get into and dig the lillies out of , many thanks Scott

Build separate veggie filter that the fish can't get at. Or have a dedicated koi pond and be at one with your decision not to have any plants

Hi Scotty ... I had the same problem a while back so made some that work really well and are really tough.

Here's the updated version of the post john suggested ... these DIY pots cost pennies ... work really well for many different plants ... including lillies (but lillies only grow tiny leaves because of being so close to the surface).

You'll be amazed at what you can grow well without soil ... and you can vary the amount of buoyancy with the diameter of hose used round the top if plants are heavy .... look quite good too (you can use different size/shape of baskets) ... and the fish love the cover ....

I’m not sure weather these are a idea they may be to small but you could cable tie a few together! I’m actually getting a 35cm one tomorrow! I have three floating ones like this and I’m going to cable tie them together but have little dividers in between to give each plant a little bit more room! Let us know what you come up with! pond plant potsIMG_0145.JPG

I have several of these planters and they can be secured together to make bigger islands.

only issue is they can overturn when heavy growth or trailing leaves etc as fish tug at them and they will overturn.

you can anchor them to the bottom via fish wire to a pot of stones etc.
