Welcome new members and old
I just wanted to say a big hello, and hope that you enjoy this site.
As members I would like to presume that we all love Koi. As I know I do, and as a volunteer to help people in my local area I know how important this site and the support we all offer each other is.
And I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce to you Three Countries Koi & Pond Fish Rescue.
For those of us who have been around a while, some of us have had the pleasure of meeting Maxine Grundy who runs this much needed charity. But as all charities it's a pull on resources and raising money for her to be able to help people out is a timely and constant thing
So here we have a great way for you to support a charity that we all love and it only takes a couple of minutes or you to register online.
would like to thank Dawn Chapman for finding this method of fundraising ..
This was her post on Facebook group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/114532858577628/
I know not everyone likes being signed up for websites etc but this is a great way to be able to contribute to you favorite cause everytime you shop with companies that are signed up to this site..they give a small donation to your favorite cause ..so it costs you nothing ..which is great .
here's the link please sign up .. there are many causes you can help .. including
Three Counties Koi And Pond Fish Rescue
How to Raise Money for Causes & Sponsorship Ideas - easyfundraising.org.uk
Even if your wife or partners only do the shopping online. Or only buy books from Amazon kindle, it works.
The charity which I support has raised nearly £700 this year alone through people signing up.
Every little helps. Please help support the unwanted and sick fish which Maxine helps rehabilitate and treat.
If you do sign up, please leave a little message here for her and me so that we can thank you for you support

Thank You Dawn
It really does work .. i ordered a pizza last night ..and got a donation of 10p form dominoes..
All those 10p's add up for any charity ..
The downloaded app does not interfere with normal use of your pc ..it only pops up on the sites that are signed up with "easyfundraising" as a little reminder and all you do is click on claim donation.
There are hundreds of worthy causes on there not just us .. so please consider signing up .. it is so easy and costs you nothing.
Many thanks Dawn we have 1 donation in the pot hopefully more to come.
Max

I've registered for it, but am not buying anything very expensive this week!
I'm not sure if it would work if I buy things from an App on my iPad rather than in the browser...

It doesn't matter what you use it for, sometimes I don't even know it's there. Not sure if it works from the app rather than a browser, you can let us know if you try it.
So far, I've used Tesco Direct, groceries (delivered cause I broke my arm) there I saved, half off Direct. Saving over £10, and then £12, off my first online shop. Then of course ebay which I use a lot. They've made donations of 2.65
Try it, you never know. Especially with Xmas coming up, ebay, argos and other shops. H Samual, etc, all over deals for online stuff.Blog, Koi, Everything.

3+ Years !
Hi all and good to be back
Its been a long time since I was last here - there's one or two names I recognize so heads up to them.
I had been thinking for a while about closing down my pond but kept putting off the decision to do it until last week when the bottom drain failed.
I first noticed something was wrong when the flow in to the filter was reduced and the water level in the pump return chamber was lower. I came home from work a couple of days later to find the chamber empty !!
So my hand has been forced. Everything must go as quickly as possible. I will get pics and a list of kit up here asap.

I just wanted to highlight this for all our wonderful new members.
So far there has been £133.53 donated. Sometimes we forget, but every little helps. Most of mine are through Amazon. But Tesco and other places support this way of fundraising.
Please sign up if you can. It's really simple.Blog, Koi, Everything.

It might be better to start a thread in the water quality area of the website to get max responses!
But as a general rule in the summer I aim to change around 25% of the water weekly (some I do as top ups after filter cleans, some is a trickle in). If I was getting ammonia/ nitrite readings or higher than I want nitrate/phosphate then I increase the changes as much as it takes to fix the problem. In winter I generally only change around 10% a week. I guess this depends how much you are feeding in winter and whether you heat, I only heat to 12C.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

I'd say the simple answer (although not actually an answer ) is decide what you want nitrate and phosphate down to and do water changes that achieve that for you.
There are so many variables I'd say it's difficult to see what one person does and apply that to your pond.
For example I change over 40% per week using really pure RO water and I can't get my phosphate anywhere near as low as I'd like
