Well they are like children, how do you choose? lol.
I only really need 20 ish in my garden pond but I am lucky to be able to offload the rest into a mud pond out in the field.
If you look at RS2000 thread Raising Koi Fry you will see I have just posted photos of the pond i am going to put the excess in.
They may end up as heron food, but hopefully some will make it.

totally agree that its bloody difficult to choose between them , and i just cant bring myself to kill any except when they deformed or ?
i like you am lucky to have a pond or two to put them in , my mates 100000 gallon pond and another friend who has a natural spring fed mud pond , did you see much change in colour once they were put out in pond or ?

i not losing any at minute for past week or so , i thought i might a few casualties when the nitrites started peeking but fingers crossed i have got through that stage , when you have floaters are there lots of chunks taken out , just wondering if maybe you have a couple blood thirsty ones in there mate , i am doing another thin out next weekend and those ones are going to my friends natural pond , the water board have something to do with it due to it being spring fed but he was over the moon to have some to grow on in there so i pretty lucky to say the least , looks like i will be making the selection from the tadpoles at this rate but hey ho i did only do this to grow some on for my friends pond so cant complain hmmmmm much . i know the culling is the right thing to do but like you i find it difficult , you more so if u still having daily deaths ,

Dead ones look ok but a bit thin so maybe not getting their share of the grub and no chunks out.
I have seen some having a go at taking a bite though.
Dont seem to be losing many now as it is settling down a bit and there are still loads in there.John

Thanks Dusty, yes they definitely seem on the up and go mad for cooked mussel from Asda.
You can see them hovering round the feeding area waiting for me to put some in and it keeps them busy for the rest of the day.
A lot of grey and black some with a bit of yellow on and ogons, interesting to see them develop.John

I get a piece of garden wire wrap one end round the mussel twice and finish back up the wire, hang it just beneath the water and watch them go for it.
It gives you a chance to see the colours close up as well.John

I defrost and cut them up with scissors.
You don't get the benefits of a close up view of the fry, but its quicker to do when you have lots of hungry mouths.
Also Silkworm Pupae through the garlic crusher.
