Debris buildup after treatment for blanket weed.
Hi,I’m new to the group but wondered if you could advise me on a reoccurring problem I seem to have. Annually around April I treat my koi pond with cloverleaf for blanket weed.I always make sure I do this before it starts to build up & make sure there is little debris present.Although it seems to stop the blanket weed I seem to get a persistent build up of black debris that blocks the filters quickly for several months afterward, am I doing something wrong?

Hi tom i treat half dose of my pond
Every end of spring. And if real bad.
Like last year.
Then again about end of august.
I never let it go beyond the fuzz stage.
This year i had half a tub of clover leaf. Left over. So put that in.
And ended up with the black oily slime mate.

Clover Leaf blanket answer is nasty stuff, I used it a few years back and it was far too aggressive. Last couple of years if required I have used blanket weed resolve - much better stuff I think. First time I used it it turned the water cloudy for a day or two then cleared, next time I used it the water stayed clear same as other times I used it and that was all at full strength.
From memory the frequency is once every 10 days for a month then once a month to keep on top of it. I found it cleared the blanket weed on the first or second dose and was advised to stop if it had cleared the blanket weed. I never needed the follow up monthly doses and the following year just one dose done the trick for me

Showa67,
I use Supertab and dose regularly to keep the bacterial presure down in the water. I use it all through the year upping the dose in Spring/early summer. Since I have started using it I have not had blanket weed and the growth on the pond walls is minimal. Got mine from Blackburn House Koi.

Peculiar this problem!,i use CBA & get no problems at all.Looking on the net, most posts seem to point towards a build up of sludge on the bottom, lack of aeration & inadequte filtration. We have a 2,500 gallon pond with an Oase Profidrum filter,12,000 LPH pump, two airstones & a 55w UV.The slme appears to be a build up of bacteria.Perhaps a pond clean or vacuuming to bottom may help.
Ray.
