    Newbie from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire

    Hello Peeps,

I've been reading the forum for a few weeks now, so I thought I would register and introduce myself.

My name's Cliff, I'm 57 and married with three kids.

We dug out the old pond last summer, which I'd filled in 20 years ago when the kids were likely to fall in and the dog at the time liked to take a dip. We always said we would restore it one day.

I had it professionally commisioned by UK Waterfeatures. It's a pretty ornamental pond with a waterfall. I've covered it with a net secured over fibreglass tent poles to raise it above the water since a heron took an interest. He still comes to have a look from time to time and we have lost one of the five originals, but cannot figure out where he went, or if indeed the heron somehow managed to nab it.

We also lost one to some sort of fungus or parasite, so I took a trip to Nishikigoi in St Helens with photos and got some really good advice on water quality and parasite identification. Well worth the trip!

So we have three from the first introduction last autumn and they seem to be thriving and growing. I estimate between 7-9 inches now. We also added three ghost tiddlers a few weeks ago and they are looking pretty good as well.

Hoping to pick your brains and share some experiences with you all. I'll post up some photos when I've figured out how to do that

In the meantime I'll be sitting by the pond with beer in hand listening to the sound of running water, watching my fish.

    Cheers!
