Post New member in the Derby /Leics/Notts border area

Let me introduce myself to everyone....
I have drifted from just having a 500G sunken plastic liner garden pond with 5 Koi to now getting hooked some 4 years later.

still at the learning stage I currently have a 1000G fibreglass pre-formed 8' diameter by 5' deep 25% below ground on a concrete base and the rest has insulation & a double brick skin. Bottom & middle drains in 4" gravity fed to a large vortex and an 8'x4'x4' chamber with brushes, jap matting alpha grog & K1 moving beds & external pump return. Top skimmer 1.5" pumped into home made sieve, bakki shower and top return.

I currently have a modest variety & selection of about 30 koi ranging from 20 to 50 cm in this pond then about 40 Tosai in the heated greenhouse & indoor aquariums.

so this years (and possibly many years to follow) projects will be to complete the Pergola over the brick pond then finally start digging up the old "pretty ponds" and start the excavating, building a "decent sized pond"with window twin bottom drains into RDF system yet to be planned.

My 25year old son has just completed his pond so some of the Tosai to be donated.

Always interested in learning more so any local enthusiast contacts always appreciated...Mike

Yes the growth of the fish pushes the urgency of new pond build , luckily only 4 are of the 40 to 50cm size, but the others 20cm and growing are pushing the new build urgency. I think my son will be rubbing his hands together for some of the Tosai presents as will a friend.

i will complete the Abbey style ruins with a rustic style canopy in keeping with and compliment the mock ruins and leaded windowimage.jpg

Thanks Roy yes you are not far up the A50.

I am hoping to get the use of the company mini digger & operator on Bank Holiday Easter Monday and I haven't even thought what exact size it should be. I am thinking about 4 feet below ground and maybe 2foot wall above ground with two windows . I would think about 15 foot long and about 6 foot wide. Lined with block work and a butyl liner - 2 bottom drains a skimmer with RDF filter /k1 moving bed /UV /Bakki Shower & maybe reed bed additional filter.
