An api one will be fine or anything but not a strip thing.
Check tap first,if 0 then you know you have to keep on top of it but no big deal.
    Ph at 7.6 ok.
When doing kh test first drop should turn blue, count this as first drop, then say if next drop turns yellow then it is two drops and so on.

If first drop turns yellow you have 0 kh.

Nothing to worry about as I have no kh,but you need to know if you need to keep on top of it.

    Hi guys...

So just after a bit of advice...
fish are doing great so far, active and eating healthily... going great so far..

    just tested gh and kh...

    so my readings were:

kh of tap water - 2 drops
gh of tap water - 3 drops

kh of pond - 3 drops
gh of pond - 3 drops

im sure the recomended level is 6 drops..
so i am a bit low.. so would you advise a buffer to bring this higher.. my ph is around 8.2...is this ok....i dont want to add a buffer if it is going to bring ph higher..

also i am recieving st crystals today for a water change... does anyone have advice on dosage... also do i need to dose just foe the new water going in or do i dose the whole pond.....

    thanks in advance

    ryan

Hi mate. I put ST crystals in for what water i add from the tap.
But i also trickle in and out.
And i add 2 level teaspoon full every 3 days.
If on my 5000 gallon pond i do a 10% water change i put say 4 teaspoons in a jug of water. And let it dissolve before i put it under where i am adding the new tap water.
Its hard to overdose with it.

Also i think you need to put a buffer in to up your KH.
I don t need to on my pond as my kh
    Is a lot higher.
Some one like john 1 will help you more on this.
As i believe he has to do this regularly.

    Hi Binary,
Get a 25 kg bag of sodium bicarb from Ebay about £20 ish, dose is 30 gm per 1000 ltrs, mix with pond water first then add to flow inlet.
Your not too bad on your kh as mine is 3 to 4 but you need to watch it and I would raise it a bit till you get used to how much s/bic to add.
I add about a mug full every week and dont measure it as I am used to it but you need to measure and see how much your pond uses.
Sodium thio,I forget the exact amount,I do as Fred and dissolve as I need it but you cant overdose that so no worry there.
Another good thing are dpd4 tablets, again from Ebay about £10.they check for chlorine.
Go on Manky Sanky site he explains all about water and how much additives to add, really good informative read.

hi mate the going rate on ST is I believe
dosage at 13 grames per 1000 gallons. which in liters is 5500lts = 1,209.8 uk gallons. so if you do say 15 to 16 grams you should be ok. and as john says get some dpd 4 tablets then test the water .

I would nt do that. could hurt the fish if they think its food. I some times put neat crystals at the exit of my nexus. and by the time it has dissolved by the time it gets to the pond
