Old keeper, new member
Hi all, I have been keeping fish for about the last 16 years, fairly successfully until about 8 months ago when I lost 8 very large (60cm+) fish in very quick succession. Needless to say I was distraught and was resigned to letting the last two remaining koi see out their days and close the pond down, however, these two are a lovely platinum ogon and matsuba have not only defied the odds (the ammonia level was 10 at one point) but have spawned and we now have about 50 1.5 to 3in fry swimming about.
So as I have never had any of the fish spawn I will be looking for help, and probably homes for them.
But in the meantime I wanted to say hello 👋

I was told earlier this year that sometimes a spawning can be brought on by bad conditions as the fish sense this and are trying to preserve their species. This kind of made sense as it matched with the spawning I had which was put down to a drop in oxygen levels due to the excessive heat we had not that long ago.
Did you mean an Ammonia reading of 10 or 1.0 ?
Anyway good luck and welcome to the forum.
