Hello All
Nice to meet you all and read some of the info on here, very helpful!
based in the sunny Midlands i have purchased a house and with it inherited a rather large pond. here is some of the things i know about it from here ... and don't
-i have worked it out to be about 32,000 liters
-i have a gravity feed filter system
-looks as though the bottom drain cover has come off so tonight involves wading into there
-the filter is using 4 foam filer and what i think is called JAP mat??
-a UV 55 light as i have just changed it so no more green water!!
-there is a fair bit of crap on the bottom, is a pond vac the best to get this all up?
-could some one tell me what the gate vales do in the pic? i know the big one shut the water off from the pond to the filters but not sure about the other two?20180715_095112.jpg

Hello and welcome. Nice pond and a starting point to learn from.
Maybe at a later date you could add a filter system that is quicker and easier to clean out
Your current filter will take at least an hour or so to do whereas a nexus would take about 10 minutes5000 Gallon Fibreglassed Pond With 54" x 27" Infinity Window

Thanks all it definitely sold the house to me!
so one of the valves may be to drain the water just out of the filters?
all suggestions welcome because god knows i am just winging it at the moment the fish seam happy though (don't worry it is cleaner than it is on the pics) i got 6 koi and just 5 gold fish to start me off, water is testing perfect.
Yeh they do seam to take an age to clean out, since having the fish in there i have not touched the JAP mat stuff as i understand this where the good stuff grows.

Hi and welcome tome nice pond you’ve inherited there. It would of been top notch that 20/30 years ago. Properly built with its own purpose built bay filter integrated wont take much to bring this back good

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
