Hi from Portsmouth, UK
My name is Steve and I’m currently pond less 😩. I have had 2 in the past but had to give it all up due to ill health and relocation. The first was a garden pond and like most others I made quite a few mistakes, to small, not deep enough, no bottom drain to name just a few. Then I decided to buy some Koi for it and it was apparent the pond wasn’t up to the job. We then moved house which gave me an excuse to build number 2 and correct some of the issues. Number 2 was 12 ft x 8 ft and 5ft deep, with a bottom drain gravity feeding 3 Hydra 4000 vortex filter units. The first unit was a vortex settling tank fitted with an Answer 325, flowing into the other 2 units filled with brushes and Jap Matting. As you can image this filter was quite large but worked like a dream and my Koi loved their new home.
Anyway, I joined the forum because I really miss the hobby and miss having Koi in the garden, so much so I have to stop myself from grabbing a spade and starting to dig number 3 right now. However, we are looking at moving house in around 2 years and it makes no sense building one here. So I have to console myself by “window shopping” on-line. On the plus side, things have changed quite a bit in the 10 years I’ve been out of the game and there is a lot of research and planning to do in order to reduce the need for a number 4!
From what I’ve seen so far this forum is fantastic, it’s a great place to research new equipment and get quality, honest feedback, advice and some great pond building ideas.
Cheers all, Steve.

Thanks Freddy, ex-RN myself hence the relocations and one of the reasons I gave up with the Koi, I couldn’t keep forking out on a new pond each time we moved .
A build diary is a must, when it happens Andy. If I can find any of pond number 2 (my last one) knocking around I post some, I’d be happy with that one now .
