Hello from not so sunny Bristol
Hi guys thought i would join the party as I have been lurking for a while, whilst researching ready for my new pond build in spring fingers crossed in all that, I have kept marines and various type of tank for many years and always wanted a pond but having small kids not such a good idea, as they are older now and can swim all is good, I have a nice space in the garden which will give me a pond 10ft x 8ft x 4ft and around 2000 gallons.

Hi and welcome.
It would be worth your while looking through the Pond Construction and Pond Build Diaries, if you've not already done so.
The first question I'd ask, is why only 4ft deep? If you could make it 5ft deep you'd increase the capacity to nearly 2,500 gallons. 5ft is really a minimum depth many would consider advisable in a pool with such a surface area as you're intending.."The information's out there,

Cool thanks for the advise i'll have a look through, I guess it wouldn't take much to go down to 5ft so it is a feasible option

Thanks guys as for set up I was looking towards an aerated bottom drain and a walls skimmer with a multi bay filter with k1 in one of the bays found a reasonable one on KC fibreglass for ponds between 2500-3000 gals which should be enough as hoping to stick with 9 koi, one question would be is it better running 1.5 or 2 inch return pipes?

2" returns would be better, You'll get a higher potential flow rate and less back pressure on your pump.
9 koi ????? i bet you'll put more in there. It's called 'The just one more syndrome'5000 Gallon Fibreglassed Pond With 54" x 27" Infinity Window

When you get the bug you'll be building a bigger pond...
The best bit of advice i was given which i say to every new koi keeper is....
Build your pond bigger than you want as you'll only want to build it bigger later anyway
I went from a 1000 litre pond to a 5000 gallon pond in one go.
I also have 2 x 300 gallon on tanks and soon to be having a 2500 gallon growing tank5000 Gallon Fibreglassed Pond With 54" x 27" Infinity Window

All good advice, koi keeping is for "the long term." So your pool will be there long after your kids have left home.
A koi pool can enhance your garden. So decide what sort of overall aspect you want to achieve, even if you can't afford to do it all at once, You don't want your pool to end up either in the wrong place or eventually, too small."The information's out there,

Look who's back again!
Edit,
No he's not, "Snorkel Digets" disappeared pretty fast as he arrived. I was alerted as the childish idiot sent me another silly p.m. Well done mods!
He doesn't learn does he?
The sad thing now is any new poster can look suspicious."The information's out there,

I've turned on a setting which will require my manual approval of any new member registrations. I've also forced a requirement for new members to verify their email address. I feel sorry for this pathetic, bored and attention seeking moron, but not enough to allow him to continue his childish game here.
