Low KH Levels on Water Test - Should I Interfere

I am an accidental koi keeper as my niece bought a 'goldfish' for my small pond some 20 plus years ago. When he started growing at alarming rate we realised he was a koi and we needed a bigger pond. He is now housed with some goldfish in a 15 by 7 foot pond. His mate died earlier this year - she was about 15. So pond environment seems to be OK.

My problem is that whenever I do water tests the KH level is very low a 2 degrees. I understand that the level should be at least 4.

My tap water shows a KH reading of less than 1 so I think I am making problem worse when I add more water.

If all my other water readings are good should I still add bicarb to bring the KH up?

I will not use the proprietary KH buffers as I lost another koi a few years ago when I added a buffer and so am very nervous about water treatments of any sort.

KH levels keep your PH stable so I would add some bicarbonate and keep a close eye on the PH, should 7.5 to 8 for koi

I have the same problem in my 32000 litre pond, rain, filtered tap water due to area etc all have low KH about 1!. You can add bicarbonate of soda and I do, but do not worry too much about getting to the best level for koi, keep an eye on PH, good advice, and add bicarb sparingly and regularly over the year.
