Bit of advice please
Hi all, pleased to say I’ve got my stream going at last which has a bakki shower atvthe head. However I need to turn off my waterfall which comes from the bio filter and rotary drum andvitll most likely be off for an extended period ( 2 weeks) that means my bio filter will be stood not circulating. So question is should I subsequently drain the water out or will it be ok in there??

All the bacteria will die pretty quick

Even though the air is on in the bio?

Just to clarify the bio will remain full of water and the air will be on

Water will start to go stagnant I would have thought and that is a big problem

I did some maintenance on my pond the weekend.
I turned the filters off for 24hrs the drum and moving bed kept air going and full of water, put a pump directly from the pond to the bakki.
Today I tested the water and have a slight ammonia and nitrite reading, going by that I would worry if I had to leave it for several days

Is is a wier in the bottom of shower . If its like a 4inch pipe then could you not use a small pump with flexi pipe pond to shower the redirect 4inch return so you can still have it running but still get your works done
or failing that bag media up and put bags in pond with air stones underneath

You won't need a flow through as such BUT you will have to ensure the filter recieves a supply of ammonia to keep it alive.
The bio filter would be ok if you were ok with adding some ammonia to it each day.
The reason i suggest this is through my experiences with fishless cycling.
While the water wouldn't stagnate as such due to the air being kept running i would certainly flush it to waste a couple of times when you are ready to put it inline again.
So just treat it as a fishless cycling exercise and take a reading for ammonia and nitrite each day. Or twice a day if you can. When ammonia is 0.00 then add some more.
You can use household ammonia or ammonium chloride to "feed" the bio filter while its not inline.
For quantities needed, take a look at the fishless cycling page on Manky Sankes website.
Do flush it a couple of times after though, just in case.

**Obviously wait for it to return to 0.00 before you start using it with pond water again***

Every day feeding container?
Good shout, I'll have a look at Takazumi :)
