    Easypod cleaning

    Hi

I am about to set up a second hand gravity fed Easypod as filtration to my pond, however after reading the evolution instruction book I cannot get my head around the cleaning part of it.

I understand how it works with the mechanical filtration and biological filtration but do not understand how the cleaning works, surely if you operate the air pump to clean the "crud" left by the mechanical filtration disturbing the media will also wash off any bacteria which has built up on the media and flush that bacteria to waste meaning that you have to recycle the filter every time.

I am obviously missing something here but cant see it

    Any help would be appreciated

    Alan

Boiling the K1 doesn’t remove the “good” bacteria that has built up, you may find that you boil it over 2-3 times per clean to ensure any crap is agitated and left free floating so it can be flushed out.

You can then open the outlet and once drained flush out with a hose pipe.

Easypod’s don’t have any biological filtration so you don’t need to worry about washing out bacteria, this is why people add moving bed filters to ensure they have a bio system.

Hope that helps and sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs...

If the media is matured fully then boiling it shouldn't be an issue but if it is still maturing then try not to boil it too much too often to give the maturing process the best possible chance. If in doubt keep checking your water parameters to see how things are going.

Also it isn't just the media in the filter that matures. With good bio. Its everything. Pond
    Pipes
    Pumps
    Everything.
