Malachite and formalin mix .....
This is confusing me now it says in the Duncan Griffiths koi book to only use once when the Two are mixed, but the bottles say repeat upto 3 times???? Who does know the correct path to follow? Also I've calculated I need 412 ml of formalin and 150 ml of malachite for my pond which is around the 6000 gallon mark so I was a bit leaner on dose, also do you mix together outside of pond or in pond? Are there any special directions to follow? I feel more comftable treating with potassium and that's daunting in it's self, any input would be greatly received , thanks steve

Donkey's years since I last mixed it myself..... Before internet where there was a bit more guess work!
Bottles from companies nearly always say to repeat dose if symptoms persist, think they just want to sell more.
I mix before adding to tank / pond. Mix, then pour into watering can full of pond water, stir, then slowly pour around the pond, drag it out for 30 mins so you can be sure there's no reaction from the fish, then keep an eye on them for a couple of hours.
A single FMG treatment nailed Costia for me. Having struggled with loads of chemicals to take out flukes that really surprised me, but fish were better within a few days, and scrapes were clear 7 days after administering.
I'm not the most experienced person to answer though, this year is the first time I've used FMG in over 10 years.
I think Duncan's dosages are a little higher than the labels on shop bought products. I guess this is because Duncan's audience is likely to know exactly what gallonage they have and are generally more experienced. Joe public with a hole in the ground most likely guess their pond volumes.Last edited by RS2OOO; 25-06-2019 at 09:42 PM.

That's why I used the fmg mix mate.
I found it easier to do. For white spot.
I know they say the separate bottles mixing is better.
As it's supposed to be stronger.
But the mix worked for me.
I added mine in 3 stages over a 3 hour period.
Reason so I could see how the fish reacted
As it got stronger in the pond. Also I had orfs and tench in there.
I took a chance with them in though.
First amount following instructions on the bottle. For 1000gallons.
Went into my nexus filter return line.
UVs off.
Waited an hour then put my next lot in
Around the pond edges. Using a bucket mixed up.
So over the 3 hours added the full amount.
Then a week later did it again. To go for the eggs.
Good luck with it mate.
Hope all goes well
Fred

Used 400 ml of formalin and 150 of malachite as you have to half the dose when combining the Two I was a bit on the lean side I dosed it to 5,500 gallons instead of the nearly 6,000 as the nexus holds a fair bit and I took out the settlement chamber , so fingers crossed , cheers Fred, had purple pond with pp now it's blue with fmg!!! Lol disco pond

Nice one. When I did mine i loved the colour. So did the wife.
She asked if I could keep it like that.
Reminded her of the Mediterranean sea.
Said I could nt . medication I will kill them if I leave it in.
Orfs and tench. To be fair my fish where not bothered.
That's the impression I got. They did nt
Show it lol
