Thanks you are probably correct some of the pipe runs are 15 to 20 m long. I am going to try some things tomorrow and see what happens.

Well that's an even bigger issue if I increase my Cetus sieve return to the pond by 3 meters to the far side of the pond running 50 mm pipe the flow half's and the Cetus just fills up, nevermind if your trying to pump that distance , you would need a few horse power pump to cover that distance even on 4 inch pipe , I've just changed my set up round and from drains to filter in-lets is less than 2 feet and the drains are working better than ever

They are gravity drains to drum filters to gravity nexus then pump to vortex.

what make of drums are they, drums were made to pull water through quicker, personally i would take the easy out of the centre of each nexus to allow better flow, and really the nexus after a drum shouldnt need cleaning, unless your drum is letting stuff through,,,andi

Hello Andi, AEM drums. The centre of the Nexus is collecting some fines, with the centre of the nexus removed the flow rate did not improve. The flow rate could possibly be improved by enlarging the centre hole however I would not want to do this! The very fine stuff goes through the drum I am trying pond clay and have put some in today. Regards, Joe.

well the aem drums can cope with 20,000lph but nexus 300 is only good for 13,000lph,i think your pulling too much through nexus, they work better with a slower flow to catch fines, you could as said see if your drum screens can be changed to a smaller micron although they are 70m standard, could it be that your pulling rubbish from top pond and stream into main pond,,,,,andi

I had clarity issues when using aerated retrofit bottom drain few years ago - but than I came across one video at modenn koi blog by Martin Kamerrer couple years ago - focusing on benefit of tangential flow / current in the koi pond - contrary to general believe with aerated bottom drain as best solution - I cannot locate that video anymore - but this link shows the principle even better - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=Gtmf4y1e8C4
water returns are angled in one direction to create current circulation around pond - with freshly filtered water replacing the water in the pond in layers from the top - and gradually pushing all the water with debris and fines down to the bottom drain - no aeration on the bottom drain as this only keeps the fines in suspension - preventing it being sucked down the bottom drain. As for aeration there is air stone placed in the corner and deflector plate installed so, that the air bubbles create airlift effect - the deflector plate directing it so it aids water circulation in the same direction as created by the returns from filters. In this video it is welded to the pond wall - as it is PE welded pond - but it can be also fixed from the top across the pond corner - dimensions - 40 cm long and 30 cm deep is enough to create this effect and really good current in the pond.
Just food for thought - one comment on nexus - my pond water clarity improved radically after I have removed Nexus and EazyPod and replaced it with drum and DIY filters .... further improved than with installation of the deflector plate and air stone in corner with aeration switched off on the bottom drain....
Good luck. You get what you pay for - or better - what you make yourself.

just had an idea on this, how big are your vortex chambers, you could take the nexus out and convert your vortex's to bio chambers using the nexus k1 and sell the nexus on empty,,,,andi

Hello Andi, I am looking at the pond today, I have increased the water flow and will post about my progress later.
I am coming to the same conclusion that it is probably best to remove the Nexus from the line, the vortex are 1m diameter and about 1.2m tall.
Regards,
Joe.

Hello Andi,
I set up one of the vortex this am and attached a 20000 lhr pump image attached:
1.jpg
I have disconnected one of the nexus and connected a 20000 ltr pump and the flow is much improved. On Friday I will look at connecting it to a vortex.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Joe.

Hello All, Firstly thank you for all your replies I am now turning over approx. 16000gph as usual a few issues getting there. I have an EVO75 uv and I noticed that the water flow did not increase when I change the pump further the bulb was blown and the crystal sleeve or seal was letting water into the bulb area, some corrosion on one of the bulb sockets.
Any thoughts on what is a good UV with full flow please.
Also am thinking of a clarity CL10 has anyone any experience with these please.
Regards,
Joe.

TMC uvs ive always used and never had issues,as long as you change the O-rings every year when you change bulb, for the sake of a few pence its worth doing,,,,andi
