2 OEM drum filters to 2 nexus 300 to 2 vortex with brushes and jap mat
plus 10000 ltr/hr pressure filter to vortex with media and jap mat

Baffled it should well be enough have you tried using the powderd clay to bind the fines? Or renew the mesh on your drums with finer mesh I thought a better flow would be vortex to drum to nexus to jap mat then pressure filter , that's how I would run it in my mind anyway although it may not be correct, oh and uv at very end Ofcourse

Thank you. I have not tried powdered clay I have used ordinary clay in the past. I did try a vortex in front of a drum. UV are in the drum and pressure filter.

I've only got a nexus 310 with 250 ltrs of k1ran off a 12000 ltr a hour pump and a Cetus seive running off a 14000 ltr a hour pump that run through a 55 w uv and my water is pretty clear also I have a 15000 lrt a hour surface skimmer which I've put a jap mat filter in the basket , how often are you cleaning the nexus? How much are you feeding and what's your stock level? Also how big is the pond? I'm baffled how you haven't got clear water unless it's a lake lol also is it bottom drain fed to filters or pump?

I am also baffled by this problem I have had numerous ponds always with clear water.
The nexus are cleaned about once a week I tried bypassing a drum and the nexus blocked in under a day.
feed approx. 200 grams a day 178 koi 4 are over 30cm rest are approx. 15cm
pond 20 x 7 x 1.8m >26000 gallons
bottom drains and surface skimmer. Thank you.

Only outher thing I can think of is a mid water intake to the filters, have you got air discs to get rotating the water lifting from the bottom and rolling over at the surface to give maximum water rotation , I'm not telling you how to run a pond or being condisending in anyway I'm just thinking of reasons why, maybe there's not enough flow to rotate the water I had similar problem with a large settlement chamber it slows the water down way too much and I had very little pull from the bottom drains it's much better now I have removed it

Thank you again, I have had air stones in the bottom, I have tried a 20000ltr pump through evo75 to get the circulation up.
I have also tried a venture on a 10000ltr pump and nothing I am doing is working! The evo75 cured the green tinge after about a day.
Your settlement chamber issue sounds similar to the issue I had when I had the vortex before the drum filter.
I was going to load up further images however I can't see how to do this. Thank you again.

I have a 6000 gallon pond and have 4 .8 inch airstones fed from a 120 ltr a min air pump and a second 120 running my nexus one stone is directly where the water returns from the nexus to agitate the returned flow so it doesn't create a current which may cause a dead spot with little movement , have you considerd a pagoda or similar to keep the sun off? I have a anti uv polycarbonate roof on mine which also enables me to totally seal the pond in winter with double glazed panels that helps keep leaves ect getting blown in the pond and causing issues, with what your saying I would probably renew one drum mesh with a finer construction and see where that takes me, I'm in the process of building my own drum filter at the moment and intend having two different drums for winter and summer as in winter there's less waste from food ect so the mesh doesn't need to be as fine

What's your water test results like?
How long has the pond been running?

Thank you for all the information, I will try the powder clay next. I should not get flow issues as I run the returns into a top pond and then over a 4m water fall into a stream. The finer drum mesh is interesting. I will let you know how I get on with the clay. Regards and thank you.

Thank you for you comments.
Water tested yesterday:

GH 50
2 years with 4500 gallons
10 months >26000 gallons
Any thoughts are appreciated.

OK, looking at your pond, looks really fantastic, well done.
You have a lot of gallonage there. What flow rate per hour are you getting through your filters?
With koi a total pond volume turnover rate of at least 2 hourly but ideally 1 hour or under is ideal to give clear water.
Nexus filters are very limiting in terms of max flow rate you can put through them.
Other q- fines or algae? Have you taken a glass of the water and allowed it to settle for a few hours to determine if it clears or remains cloudy?2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Joe.n,
I have an issue with my pond where the aerated bottom drain (at 7.5 feet) throws up a lot of the stuff heading towards the drain itself, the bottom of my pond is not flat but at a fairly steep angle. I helped out a bit by reducing the air flow to the bottom drain. I also use Koi clay which has the effect of binding fines together and helping them sink to the bottom, another effect that the koi clay has is to stick to the inside of the drum (along with any other waxy detritus) and inadvertently reduce the flow (slightly) through your drum mesh since the mesh size is reduced, catching even more fines. So counter-intuitively turning things back a notch may help.

Hello, Thank you, the maximum flow through a Nexus is approx. 2850 I have put the maximum amount of K1 in the easy and I added K1 to the outer ring until the flow reduced then removed some. Both of the variflow pumps are set to 2840 gph plus I have a pressure filter running 2200grh. Total flow 7880 per hour therefore turn over is approx. every 3.5hrs. About 3 weeks ago I tried increasing the water turnover with additional pumps and filtering about an additional 6600gph, left it running for about 6 days and it did not improve the clarity.
I have taken water samples in a jam jar the water appears clear with small particles floating in it that eventually settle on the bottom.
Thank you for your advise I hope your pond is now finished.

Hello Kenny, Thank you for all the information very useful I am going to try some powder clay tomorrow and see what happens. Regards, Joe.

It's only my opinion but I think your not moving anywhere near enough water to get the draw from your drains to clean the fines out, I'm sure if you was to turn the water over in a hour or so you wouldn't have a problem , but I think the clay might be a band aid and give you short term results
