Personally I went with something similar to this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WRAS-appr...BANJMdSQ5J74QQ
The reason being I get a sewage rebate on water that doesn't return to the sewer and the water company accept these meters as accurate enough to class as verified readings.
I give them the main meter reading, and this secondary meter reading from the pond which they deduct from the first one to calculate my drainage bill.
Some of the digital ones can be unreliable.

Nice one RS, I have got one of those but forgot to disconnect it last winter and it seems to work OK but just not at very low flow rates now so just ordered another one via your link

1000 litres is 1 cubic meter I think and that is one unit of water isn't it?
If it is the same as the one I have already got there is a star shaped wheel that spin and a separate dial marked 0 to 1 in 1/10 ths and that is litres so you can time it to work out the flow rate and then there is the proper counter with 3 red numbers and 4? black numbers. The black numbers are cubic meters like the old style gas meters

This is where it gets confusing.
Mine is attached to the outside tap supply pipe.... so watering garden or topping up pond registers on the meter and for that I receive a rebate.
But the indoor fish tanks are filled up from the kitchen tap and their waste also goes over the garden, but no rebate for that.
And also I'm thinking of fitting a separate supply pipe for the pond, which will mean removing meter from outdoor tap supply and putting it on pond supply pipe, so I'll lose any rebate associated with garden watering. If I'm canny I could tee off the outdoor tap supply pipe to the pond and refit meter before that point.
It would get silly to have meters on every outlet that doesn't go to waste.
None of my surface water goes to sewer either, so that forms part of my rebate.
In all honesty the rebate only amounts to around 1 monthly installment per year, but better than nothing I guess.

Another thing.... I have a folder on PC for meter photos. I have to contact them with secondary meter reading around 3 weeks before each 6 Monthly bill, and each time I take a photo of the reading and save it. Just to cover any possible future disputes etc.

Thanks I make the water for the tanks in my garage which all comes off of the outside tap so I'll have to first the meter to the tap so that it registers for the pond and the fish tanks as well as the garden

Thats the same one i have RS.
I aint on a meter. Just used it for pond and qt fillup.
So i had an accurate volume of water.
I get it back to zero. By attatching an air pump to it. And blowing in through the outlet side

Fitted my one yesterday and found that it was very inaccurate at low flow rates which the seller has just confirmed today after I contacted them. Apparently it works better at higher flow rates and if used for a top up or trickle in and out system it may not register any flow rate below about 1 lpm. I had it running at half a litre per 45 seconds and as the flow rate looked wrong I checked it where it was emptying into the pond and was getting half a litre in 30 seconds. I was only using a stop watch and 500 ml bottle so that's why my results are for half litres. So basically it was registering 1 litre per 1.5 mins but was actually flowing 1 litre per minute so it was under reading by half a litre out per minute. I think I have got that the right way round haven't I? either way it was reading half a litre out. So unless you are using a hose and ST or similar to top up your pond at a decent flow rate the meter won't register all the water you put into your pond going by what I found yesterday. My 3 canister 10" filter system can only run at about 1.5 lpm and that's when the ball valve on my top up system is full open so the last hundred or so litres won't register on this meter so it looks like I need to find something that will read lower flow rates more accurately
