ProfiDrum Combi Bio 30 - Bio Side

    Hi

I have had my new filter running for coming up to a year, and am struggling with nitrite readings again.

Im a bit concerned that the bio side of my filter spends quite a bit of the water cycle still?

I have the air pump that came with the filter and also a additional air head in the bay

When the bay is full it bubbles and moves well but as it drops towards the bottom it becomes quite still, could this be causing the Bio not to form

I have the maximum amount of helix membrane in the bay

Im thinking of removing some if this would help and then adding back slowly

is that your only bio filtration, how much media is in it, and what load is it supporting?

    What's your kh level?

Although I like fluid beds, it took 2 years before mine (k1) seemed to be able handle anything thrown at it.

I have a bay of helix and a bay of K1, I know people say the helix has a bigger area and so is better but I have found it doesn't roll as well in the bay as the K1.
I think this is probably down to the size and weight of the helix.
I had 100ltrs of helix in the one bay and it would tumble in the corners but when I took a few handfuls out and into the k1 bay it seem fine.
I have well over 150ltrs of k1 in the other bay and its fine (have another 50ltrs to go in).

I have 50kg of K1 & 50kg of Hel-x mixed together. I have have a Bakki shower with Bacteria house rock full to the max. My pond is just under 5k Gallons.

I wonder if i need to remove some of this to allow more space in the bay
