Well since fitting the skimmer my water clarity has suffered. Every day since fitting it the water has got cloudier and cloudier.
I expect it was is coincidental and the ducks are visiting again in the early morning but I have only seen ducks checking out this pond the once. And I have looked out at dawn and see nothing.
Well yesterday morning I would say the visibility was only a few inches into the water it is terrible.
The fish have stayed at the bottom all day since going in a couple of weeks ago, but I have seen a few up and mooching around at night.
Water quality tests are really good, it’s simply something making it cloudy.
So last night I went out with a torch, looking in on one off my marginal beds (it’s an area about 5m2 and got about 300-400mm of Clay covering the liner and 100mm of water and planted up with young plants) the viz was so bad I couldn’t see the clay, but then I saw what looked like puff of smoke in the water, then another puff, another, which was actually more clay being kicked up.
Then all of a sudden a tail fin flipped at the surface.
Since fitting the skimmer I had raised to water level to its maximum to get the largest surface area possible and the bloody fish had found a way to breech my rock wall defences to the marginal bed, the higher water level meant they could just slip in between the rocks at one or two points and they were having a party rooting around in the clay every night. My large DIY skimmer build.
