My last pond was just over 11,000 litres excluding filters and a 55 was absolutely fine. Less cost to buy, maintain and run over a 75

I think I read something like 10 watts per 1000 gallons.
There will be a min/max recommended flow speed through the UV, so compare that to the pump speed.
So its possible to overdo it with no extra benefit.
And obviously the running costs are higher with a bigger UV.
So the 10watts per 1000g is a start point, all depends on level of shade.Last edited by Simon Fish; 19-05-2019 at 06:06 PM.

I run 55w on a 12k litre pond. Does the job fine. If you turn it off for a few weeks and let the water go green then switch it on it takes around 2 weeks to catch up, but if you leave it on from April to October it'll keep the pond clear.
Personally I wasn't impressed with the build quality of the Evolution Aqua UV. Also a max flow rate of 10k per hour.
TMC units seem to be highly thought of by most owners, a similar price to EA ones, and the 55w is claimed to handle 18k litres per hour.

a 55wt should be fine but remember the 75 is a big unit and you need the room to remove the bulb

Thank you everybody. I bought the tmc one and in 5 days i have gone from soup to gin. it tells me my old unit has been failing for a while
the bit that swung it for me was once i started looking i realised that you can buy any part of it as a spare part at reasonable prices. so with my new pump and uv im just waiting for either my nexus 200 to spring a leak or the air pump to die
I can now see all the bits on the bottom of the pond, including a long lost screwdriver !
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
