Will a Nexus 220 work for me

    Hi

Been toying with thisidea for a while now, as I am a great believer in “messing”anyway due to limited space in the garden I have a fibreglass raised pondwith viewing window of approx 4000 litres. could not have any larger unfortunately.

This pond houses only12 goldfish, has a hoselock Aquaforce 6000 pump in the bottom of thepond connected to 40mm flexi pipe leaving the pond approx 6 inchesoff the bottom ,fed to a Hozelock Bioforce 6000 pressurized filter, then returning back to the pond via 40mm hose at a height of approx3ft

Works well loads ofpressure and lift on the return but I want to move on, I knowpressurized filters are frowned upon so am looking to buy a Nexus 220and just replace the pressurized hozelock 6000 filter with the Nexus220, straight swap.

Will this work, Icannot upgrade the hoses as they are built into the pond, but can Iuse the current hozelock aquaforce pond pump to feed the Nexus 220with it returning back to the pond using existing pipework. Iappreciate that as the Nexus is NOT a pressurized system offiltration getting water back to the pond may not work as it doesnow.

OK this is OTT for 12goldfish but I like change and it is gonna do no one any harm only mypockets, Will this work please, same pump in pond, same size pipework 40mm, Nexus 220 filter, return to pond at 3ft height

    Thank you and regards

A Nexus would keep a pond that size absolutely crystal clear and you'd not have to clean it very often either.

But the Nexus would be a notably large footprint against a pond that size.

You say your pond is raised, this is perfect for a gravity fed nexus via a bottom drain, and if you can drain the pond to fit a bottom drain it would pay dividends. The water level of the Nexus would need to be the same level as that in the pond, which is relatively straight forward with a raised pond.

But if you pump feed the Nexus it will need to be above the pond water level, have you considered that?

Here's the Nexus 220 manual, take a look at page 8:

    http://www.koicarp.co.uk/pdf/nexus220---manual.pdf

I ran a 7000 litre pond with 8 Koi on my Nexus 220. It took many months for the media to mature so you need to consider how you can retain some of your existing mature media for a period of time, and I also struggled with fine particles in the water at first but once the Nexus matured and started getting "blocked up" with dirt, it started trapping the fines.

This was a short video of my Koi from last summer, but you can see enough to observe how reasonably clear the water was (4 foot deep) with the Nexus:

This year I'm running the Nexus on a 12,000 litre pond as the sole means of filtration, with 13 Koi. Its too early to say whether it will be up to the job.

If nothing else, sticking a Nexus on 4000 litres gives you plenty of scope to have a much bigger pond in future without having to fork out on a new Filter. The Nexus has no moving parts so will last forever.

how does existing hose exit pond,is it by any chance connected to a tank connector on pond wall,if so then you could fit a retro bottom drain in bigger pipe in pond reduced at pond wall then bigger again on outside and gravity feed a nexus,,,,andi
