I am hoping these will help with the fines

I also need to look at reducing the nitrate and nitrites other than just water changes and may look at getting some better plants in the small top pond to help with this.

pond is 12k litres with a Midi sieve, EB50 bead filter, UV then back through underwater returns and to top pond split 50/50

    Very nice great job

Does the veggie/anoxic [spelling] filter cloud the water?

Popped to maiden head aquatic's and wyevale today to see their koi, expensive and poor quality fish, one or two may have been tidy, but poor overall.

I see you Maidenhead and I raise you Wyevale garden centre again Maidenhead, but they're were the poorer of the two today. in their "show" pond there was one large Koi that kept flashing on the bottom all the time, I mentioned it in passing to one of the assistants and he said yeah he always does it. incredible

No way . Makes you wonder how some the poor little buggers make . There was a garden centre round here didn't sell koi but had them in a pond and they washed the filters out every 2 days with the hose pipe no st no 3 pod . Just straight from tap to filter and did about 50% water change every 2 day again no st no thought or care . They lost every one I only found put what they were doing when a worker I knew left because of it

Shocking, shows a real lack of knowledge either that or garden centre didn't care as long as the presentation of the pond looked good.

i visited a garden center the other day near me who had just had a delivery, tanks had polycarb over them and a sign which read" please dont disturb us as were recovering from a stressful journey" i could see through the gaps and in 3 tanks of 3-6" koi i counted 27 dead floating, said to the guy in department "doesnt look good having a lot of dead koi floating and maybe putting more air in might help instead of the fizzle you have in at the moment" his response was "we buy that many at a time we expect some not to make it,and theres plenty of air going in,i'll move the dead ones when i get chance im busy at the moment" and proceeded to go outside for a smoke,,,,,,andi

And the ones still alive will have a price tag on them way above their actual value, also whose to say that they won't be floating or lying on the bottom a a week/months time, legislation needs to be brought in for better control on all live fish, birds and all animals.

Dreadful, as I said when I first joined the forum, that I truly had my eyes opened
on Koi when I visited Gatwick Koi I'd always wanted a pond with them it, but had never seen the true quality of the fish until I visited Gatwick Koi stunning, red colouring pure whites etc, colours that stood out from each other, like a painting, I've seen lots of Koi since I've come home, not just garden centre Koi, but lots of british breed fish and hand on heart, the difference between those and japanese fish are unbelievable in my untrained eyes, there are no doubt some wonderful british breed fish that would give the japanese fish a run for their money, but I've not seen any so far, seen some very nice fish though, afterall they are what they are and still very enjoyable to view
