    Eazypod Gravity Fed Outlet pipe to pump question

    Hi all, I am struggling to locate a correct size rubber boot to connect to the pod outlet pipe to my Jebao pump which has a 1 1/2" inlet pipe. The Pod will be gravity fed, so the 4" to 3" rubber boot that came with the Pod will be used for the inlet pie to accept the 4" (110mm) pipe from the bottom drain. I did managed to find a 3" to 1 1/2" rubber boot from Swell UK, but did not fit the Pod outlet pipe which is 3 1/2" (90cm). Can anyone help pls. Thanks

    have you tried putting the rubber boot in hot water for a while. and the put vasaline on to help it slide. I have done this a few times.

    are you still talking pond rubber boots fred lol,the 4" boots normally tighten down quite a bit you could try a 4"-1 1/2",also the 2" ones ive tightened to 1 1/2" aswel,,,andi

    Did nt he say one of the boots was to tight or would nt fit mate.

    Thanks for the replies. The Pod outlet pipe measures 3 and a bit inch approx 90cm (outer diameter) and the 3" to 1 1/2" rubber boot I bought measures 80cm (internal diameter) at the 3" end so no way will fit the Pod outlet pipe.
    Surprised EA do not do a 3" to 1 1/2" connector for people who wants to use their Pod gravity fed?

    Hi - you may have tried this, but if you heat up in boiled water, its sometimes possible to stretch them onto the 3" outlet? Cheers

    Hi, I have not tried it but looking at the thickness of the rubber between the outer and inner diameters, it's 10mm difference so doubt it will work. It will just bulge out too much and won't be completely round.

    Ok boiling a pan of water now throw in the rubber boot when nearly boil lol

    If it will not go on. You will have to buy a 4 inch one. And as andi says they work on 3 inch. Since i had the same problems. I buy a size larger anyway now. When buying boots That way i make sure it will go on.

    I do have the 4" one but its way too big to the 3" pod outlet. The 4" boot is actually 4 1/2" wide so way too big to screw down to 3"

    Tried the boiling method! Won't budge just too thick to push in. Will go buy a 3" to 2" rubber boot and see if the 2" end will tighten down to 1 1/2" on the pump inlet pipe. That might work!

    Just went out and checked my gravity fed pod on my skimmer line..I have a 3" to 2" rubber reducer on my outlet, and then the 2" pressure pipe is reduced via pressure pipe reducer to 1.5" as goes into pump...

    I am still not keen on these rubber boots when you tighten it onto a pipe the side where the screw is will bulge out so how will this be water tight?

    Trust me if done up tight they are fine, I've used many for 6 years, no issue - almost all of us use them...just need to check they are tight periodically.

    Ok thanks for the advice will give it a go. I thought the hard part of actually building the pond was tough but the plumbing side if it is doing my head in lol. Also have to think how to connect the pump to the KK UV unit that came with hose tail connectors. They certainly don't look 1 1/2" to me!! Hey that's the fun of ponding you learn as you go along.     first thing is your easy pod one with built in uv. or with out the uv. if it is with out. you have to change the pod your self to gravity feed. have you done this. changed the centre pipe. and hacksaw the inlet off. then you swap the rubber boots around and they fit, if I remember correctly . I have copyed and pasted from the manual. if you read the part where it says hacksaw off. and use the outlet boot on the inlet and the inlet on the outlet.

    IMPORTANT...For gravity fed installations,

    you will need to reverse the exit pipe so that the return pipe D is lower. This is because
    the exit pipe D although crucial for a pump fed system would impede a gravity unit when the media starts to filter out the debris altering the water level. See figure 3 for reference diagram.
    1. Remove the overflow assembly and safely store the 3 screws which secure it (see Fig.7).
    2. Remove the stainless steel perforated centre pipe by pulling gently (see Fig.8).
    3. Loosen the upper clip on the rubber connector (see Fig. 9)
    4. Invert the Pod and remove the 2 screws and plastic pipe support bracket (see Fig. 10)
    5. Remove the 90mm return pipe assembly from the EazyPod body (see Fig. 11).NOTE: The pipe assembly is comprised of 1 long length and 1 short length joined by a 90 bend.
    6. Refit the pipe assembly by pushing the shorter end back into the EazyPod, so that the long length is now the exit.
    7. Tighten up the rubber connector to form a water tight seal (see Fig. 12).
    8. Refit the steel pipe with the perforations at the top, not at the bottom (see Fig. 13).
    9. Replace the overflow assembly and rescrew into the housing.
    1. 10. Using a hacksaw, cut off the pre-installed inlet (see Fig. 15 and 16).The Pod must be situated at pond water level. That is to say, that when the circulating pump is switched off, water is level with the overflow assembly. This level will lower when in operation (see Fig. 14 and Fig.6). The rubber connector on the outlet port must be swapped over so that on the inlet you will have the optional 3 or 4 inch (90-115mm) rubber connector to take your pipe work from the pond and on the outlet you will have the 1.5 inch (50mm) connector for your return pressure line. The slide valve G can be used before your pump, to isolate I

    I fitted some the other day that at first glance looked way too small but with a little bit of effort and the help of a screwdriver as leverage it went on OK.

    It may be a silly question but are you undoing the jubilee clip fully? I only ask as the ones I tried looked like the boot was as wide as it would go but once I moved the jubilee clip down onto the smaller section of the boot the boot fitted using the method mentioned above and then I undid the jubilee clip some more and refitted it in the correct place on the boot. Job's a good en

    As already mentioned warm or hot water softens the rubber so it will stretch easier.
