Gravity filtration layout.
Hi all,
I have viewed many filtration set ups online and in all honesty i am confused, as previously mentioned my pond will potentially come from EZpond, it will be fiberglass with an infinity screen and cladded, it will be 3m x 2.4 x 1.6, BD to gravity system using a drum system, could someone be so kind as to list in order from the aerated spindrifter BD what i need in sequence back to the return or how it should be set up in sequence, i want to have a skimmer and what ever else you feel should be in place for a 2100 gallon above ground set up, i want to place an order but until i fully understand this i am concerned i will miss something out, i need to agree what exit /entry points are needed in the tank, should i have 2 BD or is 1 sufficient for this size, also how many external plug sockets will i need as i have a sparky coming round at some point to install them for me, as you can tell still quite clueless!! much appreciated Steve.

i think 1 bd enough,so bd to drum to bio chamber then pump back to pond,,then skimmer to drum then pump to uv and back to pond, you will need 6 sockets for that set up, 2 pumps,1 drum,1 uv,1 air pump, but add a few more for things like lights ,air pump could be split to feed aerated bd and air in bio chamber if you get a decent size air pump,uv i would go for a 55w,as for pumps 2 of the jeboa 20000lph variables would be nice as you can turn them down to i think 8000lph and they are low wattage,so run one turned up on bd and then other turned down on skimmer,,,as for returns i would suggest having 2 underwater ones, although you could like i did have these split after pump with valves as i feed a bakki shower in summer from both my pumps but in winter i alternate 1 underwater and 1 shower, hope this helps,,,andi

Right. Most of it is funds. As to why people set up differently. So lets say funds aint a problem.
On my build i have to seperat lines.
01 gravity fed skimmer line. Sucks in from skimmer to ultra sieve3. Then to pump after sieve. Then to uv. Then back to 2x mid returns.
O2 bottom drain to my draco drum
Then bio which is a nexus. Moving bed chamber with air.
Then it goes to pump after the moving bed chamber. (Nexus) to uv then to pond
I have 2x seperate air pumps. For air into bottom drain.and the other one air boils my k1 helx plastic media in nexus chamber.
If you bought a drum with enough
Inlets 4 inch. And enough outlets
You can run everthing into the one drum. Meaning skimmer and bottom drain. Into the drum. And then to your bio chamber.
I will go get you some photos to give you a clearer picture.
Skimmer photos first
Thats the bottom line 3 inch then to 4 inch.
Next lot in filter house

They where coming andi. But i made sure i closed them lol haha
The reason i was putting pictures up is some people don t understand.
What the hell some of us mean. As there new to the game. And pictures sometimes makes them see it better.
But no need now. He said he can picture it in his head.
So you put it down good mate.

Cheers mate. Thanks for the kind words. If you still want photos. Just say so mate. An i will add them. But i think you get the picture with andi s great write up.
Yes mate 2x air pumps on seperate lines.
I could have gone one air pump and fed 2x lines with the one. And put a t piece in the line. But went for two
So that if one packs in .i still have one running untill replaced the one that packed up.
Good luck with the build mate

Forgot to answer a question.
It is 7 feet to top of brickwork.
But water is set at 6 feet deep. Level with skimmer.
If i had to have it rebuilt i would have gone for 5 feet deep.
Reason. Its very hard to catch the fish in a net.

Its ok until you walk inside and nearly knock yourself out on strategically placed roof beam

Yes I managed just to miss the screw. It would have been messy it i had hit the screw.
Did you get the conservatory sorted?
I am just designing the extension to my filter area so I can put the quarantine tank in. Hope to start on the block base next weekend and then build the timber frame and clad with larch lap.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
