You will still need a fair amount though as with mine from the top of the disc with 30 litres of K1 in to the underside of the over flow section is something like 100mm to 150mm I think? Mine is pump fed so not sure how much difference in any that will make on the amount required?

I wondered if this can be remedied by adding 20-30 litres more of k1 to say 50-60 litres and the. Add the matting on top ?

I have jap matt in my bay so i just used a left over piece of a full 2m x 1m sheet i think it was. Its not true japanese matting either. Its cheaper softer stuff in black colour i have along with some true jap matt which is blue with bit of yellow etc in it and very wirey /stiff.
Not sure what sizes you can pick up but you wont need alot. 1m2 would leave you a fair bit of wastage. Try ebay Easypod modifications

I will do some research for jap matting but 1m2 should do it as the dimensions for a pod are under that and use left overs to stand on end. Just need warmer so I can actually stand outside long enough to measure/cut/fit and get hands wet in Ivey cold waterEasypod modifications

You may find that if you add more K1 it may not boil properly or you may need a bigger air pump to get it to boil?

Others may have already tried this so may be able to give you a more definite answer - hopefully?

From memory as the Eazy Pod isn't in front of me at the moment and it's still early in the morning for me at the moment lol adding 20 to 30 litres of K1 may not be a good idea as when you do boil it, it will probably push some of the K1 up and out of the chamber unless you have got something on top of it to stop that from happening. You may get away with adding an extra 10 litres of K1? but then again may not boil as well or need a bigger air pump? It's going to be a bit of a trade off at the end of the day as what you gain in filtration etc. you'll loose in ease of cleaning, if that makes sense?

Yeah I can add in smaller quantities and assess it over weeks/months to see, I can also drain the pod by a few centimetres to ensure the k1 doesn’t spill over or I could cut out some wire mesh to place over the pod to help retain the k1.

I will have a think and see what I can do.

Sounds like a plan. Be good to hear how you get on with it. See how much K1 you add and if required how much extra air is required to boil it. It's a shame that variable speed air pumps aren't as readily available as variable pond pumps, but you could always use a bigger air pump and with a manifold with a vent to atmosphere option to control the amount of air that way? Just remember to add an air stone onto the air line that is venting to atmosphere to keep the noise down

Sorry I hope I'm not telling you something you already know or have already tried.

Okay thanks for the info, I will see what outcomes I get from any modifications.

I am sure someone somewhere has done all of this and more but to no affect, just be interesting to see what I can achieve and then save up over the next 12+ months for a filter upgrade etc then.
