    Thanks for the reply

What media are you running it with ?

grog, i brought the biggest size shower, and if i remember correctly it held about 4 bags, plus some ceramic rings I already had, that I squeezed in, so the total media cost for my shower was about 56 quid.
It took only 2-3 weeks for it to mature enough to get rid of a lingering nitrite reading Id had for ages.

you can pay hundreds for a single box of fancy ceramic media, but personally I think its snake oil, and it seems nobody can prove wether its any better than cheapo grog or not.

A discussion I have had with my local koi keeper is the difference between a Bakki Shower (large stainless steel 1k+ unit) and trickle towers. The plastic ones I see on eBay appear to be trickle towers and not Bakki showers so do they offer different filtration benefits? The plastic ones don’t all seem to offer the large influx of air smashing in to the water where as the stainless steel Bakki shower does.

I am looking at purchasing one of these but I cannot afford 1k+ on a huge stainless steel shower.

I would be interested to know the differences and benefits of these as they may help my parameters a lot in the future.

I ran a genuine bakki for around 7 yrs with bhm and a small amount of crystal bio . the crystal bio had started to break down causing a few probs , so last summer I dumped 30 kgs of it and replaced the bakki with a bigger plastic shower as I wanted to run more media and more flow over it bhm has been pretty much bullet proof from day 1 , nitrates dropping from 150 plus , 40 out the tap to around 30 / 40 now

this Is the same as mine apart from mines black....I think people just call a shower and a trickle filter the same thing.

I have a Bakki shower, from memory there are 7 box's of media in it. Very pleased with it, well worth the money.
If you buy one the latest one that I have holds the water in much better and there is hardly any splashing, I also have twin wall to cover it stop the water from chilling to much.
In winter I turn the speed of the pump down and reduce the flow.
I was thinking of adding another box or two of media, thought a couple of box's of lotus root may be worth a try mixed with the bhm, does anyone else use this media?

Tony do you prefer the lotus media over the Bakki because of the slots, as they seem a similar. Also which do you think I should add a couple of the the larger or smaller ?

smaller they are more compact in a limited space im more than happy with the both media

a friend has x2 double bakkis with a mix of the 2 equally happy with his results

I am not sure which is the best trickle shower to go for really, the link to the first trickle shower doesn’t appear to have the spaces needed to allow air to circulate and saturate the water.

Or whether this is a better option

they will all work just as good as each other, so it just depends how big you want to go really, or what your budget is.

I think they are made by the same people

The last 2 links are from the same provider, the first link is from a manufacturer in Liverpool who I purchased a custom made Moving bed from. I am just not sure whether these examples give as good outcomes as the large stainless steel Bakki showers, are these in fact trickle towers and not Bakki showers ?

My budget only allows for say £300 on a trickle shower but I still have to take in to account media plus an addictions pump. I don’t want to waste my money on one of these and then find out I should have gone for a genuine Bakki shower which will cost me about £2000.

There's a lot of weight in the media, are these plastic ones a lot smaller to take the weight compared to the stainless?
I would be worried about them distortion over time.
I had looked at the smaller quenis ones to use with a slower flow with the same media in.
