    Filter media calculator

    Morning all.
I'm thinking of upping and changing some media on my 1300 gallon pond.
Pond is 14ftx7ft and depth is between 50-90cm.
Filter is by midi sieve to eb40 bead with 50l micro k1, then over a 2 tier ps1 with 2bags or 20kg of pumice.
    Pond parameters Ammonia 0, Nitrite .25, Nitrate .50, Ph 7.5 Th 7, Kh12, Po4 .20 as of yesterday
15 koi ranging between 40-60cm. I've been having a nitrite reading most of the year of .25
Hence the thinking as the koi have grown well this year. But trying to work out media litres to pond litres or weight/ size of koi is doing my head in.
Thinking is adding another 25l micro to bead and taking out the pumice and changing to sakura or csm.
How do you work out how much media you need. For example 10kg may be 25 or 35l of media but what s the thinking of how much for a given pond or stocking rate

At 10 gallon to an inch, your pond would support 130 inch.
You have 300 inches of fish.
Any extra filtration has to help but is there not a need to dig the pond to twice the depth?
And be looking to give some fish away?

I'm personally inclined to say that pond volume has not alot to do with the number of koi but it's more the filtration. Yes if they were all 60-70cm koi then the pond would be over crowded. The need to lower the number would be a good idea.
Figures for the amount of fish per gallons are inaccurate. Years ago it was 500gallons to 1 koi, now it's a lot lower.
The question was how much media per litre is required per gallon of water or fish load. Reason is have a look at shower media as an example some say a box holds 10kg or 25 litres. A shower may hold 90 litres. How much will that filter, in regards ammonia etc
