If there is a pipe which goes to the bottom of the wheelie bin consider shortening it as it could easily clog up. I would imagine that you are only using two thirds of the depth of the wheelie bin to collect the muck so that equates to about 150 litres. If you lower the height of your waste pipe around your sunken box you will have to cut a new hole through the wall and into the wheelie bin and you will have less collection volume. So to retain the collection volume in your wheelie bin you need to sink it further into the ground which means the lid would be below ground level. Is there no opportunity to connect to a 4" household waste pipe nearby, this would be the best long term option. The alternative would be to raise the height of the RDF as much as is possible leaving the pipework at the existing height. The run on a water pipe only really needs to be around an inch per yard.

Another consideration is that if you have just started using the RDF and it cleans automatically it will be going more often and collect more muck than it would when the pond is clean(ish). Mine certainly did for about a week then as the pond was cleaner it started up less often. Mine is not on a timer but is controlled by water level in the RDF itself. Your RDF cleaning often may easily have filled up your wheelie bin to the point where the water has backed up to your RDF not allowing the waste to get away. As the RDF settles down you may find your problems go away. In the mean time make sure your wheelie bin is emptied regularly.

Thanks Kenny. Yes the green wheelie bin takes the waste from the RDF and a dirty water pump then empties this when it reaches a set water level. I have no mains drainage, the dirty water pump is planned to pump to the septic tank, but my installer has yet to do this - It is emptying into the garden flower bed at present!

I did think whether it was first cleaning high load that caused this, but I have to agree with most comments that there isn't enough fall. The wheelie bin has def not backed up causing the issue, I have been keeping an eye on that carefully.

I do appreciate your time and advice.

I have a long wast run and initialy I had a prety flat section of 4" attached to the drum and had similar problems. You need to increase the drop particularly in the first section - the key is to make sure nothing stays in the tray as that has a flat base and is much worse at silting up than the pipe. I actually dropped down from 4" after the 90deg boot to standard drain pipe so I could reroute with a larger drop and I haven't had any issues since.

I can see why you don't want to put in much drop. Would it be possible to experiment to see how far you need to go - just discharging into a bucket or garden tub-trug initially before you rearranging things with the bin.

Have you got a link to that video? I was planning designing something like that and it would be a good start.
