This is what you need a test tube fill with water from pond. Up to 5ml mark Or tap. Or whatever you are testing.

Then put a DPD4 tablet in tube i crush mine in test tube. With teaspoon handle.
If clear of clorine stays clear
If clorine in water goes a pinkish colour.
Here is the ST. You want.

I get all these of ebay

Just checked Syd's site and it is 10ml of water in the test tube. When you check for a colour change look down into the top of the test tube and not through it like you normally do. Any colour change from clear or white depending on which version of DPD4 tablets you use means there is chlorine. You want to see no change after a short time after the tablet is fully dissolved. If you leave it too long the DPD4 will react as it is also used to test for ozone so it will oxidise after a while and give a colour change to pink.

DPD4 measures chlorine initially and then if there is ozone presence but you probably don't have to worry about ozone.

ST? Is a chemical dechlorinator that you put in in the pond prior to filling up or topping up your pond using a hose straight from a tap.

    Hope that makes sense

Sorry I would like to help you out with a link but I'm using my phone to view and post at the moment and I don't know how to put links on via the phone. If others haven't posted a link by the time I get home I'll have a look as I will be using the laptop then so links are easy from that

I've done exactly the same a couple of times recently - 5ml not 10ml might explain if you got any negative results for chlorine lol

Ebay is very good for test kits and DPD4 tablets. NT Labs are also very good test kits. For O2 which is dissolved oxygen look for Tetra. API do master test kits but you need to get the fresh water kits.

You probably would get more readings for it as you are using less water so the tablet is more consentrated so will give a higher reading
