Bakki or Bio - Crunch time, whats your thoughts
So as some of you may know, I am building a 5500 gallon pond, so I am starting from scratch to a certain extent, I have setup a temporary pond to house my fish and that is running a KLK Filtreau 30 Hi flow Drum filter followed by a 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1, all will be moved over to the new pond when complete, my stocking levels are low at the moment until I move to the new pond
So to sum it up, I currently have:
- 5500 gallon new pond
- KLK Filtreau 30 Hi flow Drum filter
- JBR Plastics 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1
So onto the question, do IA - Keep the JBR Plastics 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber with 100 litres of K1 and add a 1 meter Bakki shower with mediaB - Ditch the 700mm x 600mm x 700mm Bio chamber and have a bigger Bio chamber made, then increase the K1
Opinions please as I need to make the financial decision soon and get this ordered

option A,add a shower and keep everything, you cant have enough bio,my new pond will be 5000g and i will have a nexus 200 150ltrs k1 outer chamber on bd1,a kc-10 drum and a ea stainless bio chamber with 100ltrs k1,both will then flow over a momotaro bakki with 70kg bhm, more is always better than less, andi

Agree with the above. You can add the bakki first and then increase the biobox at a later date if you need more.

So after much consideration and thought as well as some interesting reading I have decided to go for the Bakki shower with 30kg of Sakura Far Infrared Shower Filter Media, I will also be increasing the Bio to its max, which I thing will be close to 150 litres of K1, the K1 that is in is keeping the Ammonia levels down but not the Nitrate and Nitrite, so I am homing that shower will pick up the them.
I was reading earlier that the K1 is not so good on Nitrate and Nitrite but very good on Ammonia, not sure if this is true or not but thought best not keep all my eggs in one basket
A JBR Plastics Bakki shower is on order 1 meter wide, 3 tier with 2" inlet and weir plate, at a very reasonable price4600 Gallon Concrete Block and Fiberglass

I think you'll find that whatever media keeps Ammonia levels down will also keep Nitrite levels down too but it won't necessarily keep Nitrate levels down as well as that requires a different type of bacteria to break it down.

Funny... I'm asking exactly the same questions as you are with my build but a few weeks behind. My other pond has a Nexus 220 and as has been said, what I can research and the little experience I have is, that K1 doesn't do well reducing nitrates, that said mine's halved in the last couple of weeks, possible being evaporated with all this heat?!
I won't purchase any filtration until next year now or possibly over the winter if there's a deal on but I'm looking to go with a bio chamber and bakki made by JBR this time round.
