Filtreau drum filters
Looling at getting a filtreau 20 drum for my pond with the attached bio unit.
Would be running approx 10,000lph through this (turning my pond approx every hour).
I'm new to drum filters and have no idea if these are of decent quality (especially as have only a 1 year garuntee) as they seem cheaper tgan many options. Looking for some reassurance before shelling out the best part of £2k.
Would the 75L of biomedia capacity in the biochamber be sufficient for my pond size? I will be pump feeding so limited with adding showers and alike after the unit.
Cheers, James.

I was always against combination units, as the media side is at the same water level as the Drum, on my Filtreau 35 Hi Flow the water level is about 140mm from the top, I would therefore loose 140mm in the bio side, I opted for a 700mm x 600mm x 700mm separate bio chamber which I can dictate the level, so its not dictated by the drum
The drum units are good quality in manufacture but you do get what you pay for, the only downside with mine is the quality of the float switch, it is something I will be changing when I move over to the new pond, but apart from that the unit itself is good and I don't have any issues with it
As with all drums, the water level is critical, its best to supply the cleaning pump with tap water as they don't have a lower level to shut the unit off if the water drops too low, they just keep running the cleaning cycle and eventually empty your pond.

if your only putting that much through then why not save a grand and get a draco minima, andi

Because of the limited media capacity and stated max pond size of 2,000gallons (7.5k litres).
If I was going for the draco I'd get a solum 16 and bio unit - the reason I was thinking of the filtreau was that it has an integrated UV and pressure pump.

If you have the space for it just get a easy drum (AEM or Filtreau) and a separate bio unit. JBR will make you one to your specs, and it will probably save you 500 quid and have at least triple the bio capacity

Personally i would go for what Toffee said,an Aem for one grand and separate bio which is basically just a tank which i made.

I have the Flitreau Hi Flow 35, it is almost identical to the AEM-A35 with the exception of the waste shoot and the sensors, the AEM has a square waste shoot and the Filtreau has a rounded, on the sensors it looks like the AEM has 3 probes and the Filtreau has a float switch, the controllers are also identical, I think mine cast £1200 with High Pressure pump and pipework, the Bio was about £350 from JBR

Going to do as suggested with the AEM and biounit.
I have floclor in my current system - should I put this in my moving bed to help get the bio capacity going/maintain the bio fuction whilst the new media establishes?
Or will this disrupt the flow in the bio unit?
Cheers
Every day feeding container?
Good shout, I'll have a look at Takazumi :)
