Cleaning time on drum
Hi all,
I have the solum 25 drum which is cleaning every 25 to 40 mins,is this ok?
I have the cleaning time set on 1 do i need to increase it to 2 or more?
Only had it since the beginning of the year but as i am feeding quite heavily it is cleaning a lot more.
At first i thought the screen was blocked a bit but on spinning it by hand it looks perfectly clear with my hand behind it,the sencer is set as per manual.

Cleaning time on drum
My ProfiDrum is about the same, although it can be adjusted by a twin float switch (up & down).
The lowest setting equates to the fastest cleaning time, I.e there is less water to drop off the end of the float switches (once the screen is blocked) forcing the clean.

Idally you want your drum to be cleaning fairly frequently- one of the key benefits of a drum is not just removing solid waste from the water, but getting it out of contact of the water and totally removed from the system quickly.
This gives the bio filters less work to do as ammonia and other waste products that are actually in the poo then don’t need chemical removal. Filters such as the Nexus keep waste trapped within the water course for days until the next cleaning cycle is done. It is thought that drum filters can help reduce the bad bacterial load of the water because of the rapid removal of these solids.
This is one reason why some of the experts recommend you don’t massively oversize a drum. Because that would increase the time between rinses too far.
I would suggest a 20 minute rinse cycle interval is absolutely fine. A 15 minute one is even better. The down side is that it uses a bit more water if youre on a meter.
I adjust the height of my sensor slightly now in the winter when Im not feeding so mich to make sure the rinse interval never gets over 30 minutes. At the moment its set to give me roughly 15 minutely rinsies during the day when most of the feeds are.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

I have the exact same drum and find that 25 to 40 mins is the norm so on that (admittedly small sample) I would not worry. Interestingly, the time between cleans increases overnight ( I have not quite got it over 99 mins to get the error message - the problem of only having a two digit counter- but have had it close). In the daytime this can drop as frequently as 15 mins. My assumption is that the fish are more active in the daytime and are stirring up the small amount of "solids" from the bottom of the pond. I have mine set on 2.
Hope that helps
Bryan
PS This is a cracking piece of kit. Don't know how I managed without it. I am certainly not missing the old fashioned cleaning rituals with smelly fish poo everywhere.

On my Draco in Nexus 310 it’s every 11-15 mins at the mo. during the day, 20 mins or so at night. Just down to daytime algae and them foraging daytime..

I also have the 25 and mine is cleaning around every 40 min I have two pumps on it one to shower one to moving bed. And it’s pulling around 20000lt an hour I had it set on number one but have now gone to number two and it has made very little difference in the cleaning time

Hi all. Those wash times are all sounding good and nothing to worry about.
Info on the difference between day and night? We first noticed this a couple of years back when we sent a pair of drums to Georgia, USA. It appears it is most likely due to algae growth. In the daytime it grows like stink. At night it stops... so the drum doesn't have to get rid.

Thanks for all these posts,we`ve just had a profidrum installed & at one point we thought we had a leak.Between the cleaning cycles & the high temperatures at the moment causing evaporation,we`re topping the pond up 2-3 inches nearl everday at the moment.I must say it`s a cracking bit of kit,the water is crystal clear, our Nexus 220 left fines in the water.

At the moment,no,we`re looking into auto top up systems but the pipe from the house has got to be frost free as the pipe froze this yearso i`m not quite certain what to do.
