Advantage glass filter
Hi all
Now then has anyone out there got the Advantage glass filter? It looks like the bead unit but goes after the bead as a polishing unit. It does need some special cleaning routines but is it worth the bother ?
There are the bead and glass unit for sale 10k gals capacity on eBay for £850. I am hoping someone on here has one to give me an opinion on how they perform.

is the glass filter not just another bead filter,so your running a bead then a polishing bead, andi

Yes but it's setup more like a sand filter on a swimming pool. The issue you get is the glass inside needs to be regularly pp ed so no bio film builds up and clogs the media. I was just wanting an opinion from someone who has one setup, hopefully not the bloke trying to sell it.

well as a normal bead owner i can say that although they are great for polishing and removing fines, theyre no good for building good bacteria, however they are good as i found out a few years ago, great as a bad bacteria bomb if you dont keep on top of a good maintainence regime, what filter do you have now may i ask,if its just polishing you want then a small bead will do that for you, andi

I have a bead and Nexus setup at the moment, but just about to build a new filter house and 're do the lot. So I was thinking about an upgrade.

for what your thinking of spending on that advantage i would sell nexus and put money towards a drum, then use bead after drum, this should sort you out, andi

I second the drum idea - lot less bother and lower running costs. Glass filters are just a sand filter with glass media as far as I'm aware. You could pick up an old sand filter for peanuts and fill it with glass media - but I really wouldn't bother.
6000g in ground koi pond
+3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

you could as drums normally have a couple of outlets use one for your bead as a polisher and the other for a shower for your bio,or a bio box full of your nexus k1 and sell nexus empty, andi
