    Bakki River

Really love this, I'm thinking of getting one made in due course. It would fit perfectly along one ledge of my pond and I could take the feed from the outlet of my Eazypod before returning to the pond.

You can see the water tracking straight along the top of the media there- there's several things he could do to stop that from happening. Using slots in the inlet and outlet plate would have given a more even flow I think.

I often watch his videos but I think his Bakki River idea is just a under performing Bakki Shower.

I will keep that in mind thanks. I'm assuming you mean slots near the top of the plates?

Is the point of a shower not to have highly oxygenated water splashing around the media? Seems like a river loses this?

Just a thought, his bakki river might provide denitrifikation just because the water flows on the top of the media only. I'm not sure changing the flow to go thru the media would provide a better filter. Depends on what you would like it to do...

looks like an almost impossible to service version of a bog stranded aquarium sump unit, it works for denitrification, but there are easier ways to get the same result,

looks like an idea that could work imo with some tweeking, as feline said the waters tracking, but that's easily fixed, could only see the need for it though if you don't have the height for a shower.
Not a new idea really, but respect for building it and developing it.

odd that he thinks fire bricks are hard to get hold of, also a little odd using them when a baffle in acrylic or glass would work just as well and not take up so much media space

these kinds of ceramic medias don't work so well submerged as opposed to in a shower imo, I proved that myself with alfagrog this year, it was almost useless in my multibay, but brilliant in my shower, and its because the water just goes around it, instead of through it, so that huge honey comb internal surface area just doesn't get used.
    All imo of course

So many options...! My JBR Plastics biochamber arrived today. I just got back from Berlin this evening, so had a quick look, it's pretty substantial looking and built really nicely. 100 litres of pp'd K1 will be going in this weekend followed by another 50 if it will fit - which it hopefully will.

Unpacked and installed today. The 80 lpm pump was too much for it and was causing the unit to overflow. I've connected up my QT air pump for now at 20lpm. I think a 30lpm pump will do it nicely.
