Are you not using any kind of filter in front of it

Yes try these, I use these in my skimmer basket and are great but need cleaning most days but nothing gets though them muckwise.

I'm running a Blue Eco 320, into its third year, redone the the registration last Autumn, so now have the timer function and dry running protection. I like have the timer facility as I have running at a faster rate for a couple of hours twice a day and the dry running protection. Would I by another probably not, nice pump but over priced with cheaper alternatives now on the market.

Also running a Aqua Forte Vario 20000, opted for this one when the lower one would have done but would be running flat out to achieve it. Surprising how the Blue Eco and the Vario look so similar, happy with it so far, shame you can't have a time function on it but saving £500 over a Blue Eco softens the blow.

You make a very good point there

The running costs are lower and it won't wear out as quickly

e.g. for the PondXpert variflow pumps

    Variflow 10000 9200 lph 85W
    Variflow 20000 9300 lph 34W

so the larger pump is approx £75 a year cheaper to run (and only costs about £50 more)

    My thoughts exactly

It is running filtered water so all good.

The Blue Eco on the other hand is running a Bead, would advice anyone with this setup to run the water through a basket at least or a sieve, the tight tolerances in the Blue Eco you don't want anything to get to the impeller, I have to clean the basket minimum once a week and being careful not to allow anything to get to the impeller, a few occasions I've had to strip the pump down because something has got in the impeller when cleaning the basket, never actually found what was causing the noise in the impeller but there are a few scores around the impeller where a bit of grit or something as got trapped.

Interesting I was wondering if I did the right thing going for the Variflow 30000 - I have never been able to run it much beyond about 50% capacity without bottoming out my sieve.

A slight issue I had with it over winter was I couldn't turn it down far enough in the very cold weather. I tried restricting flow further by closing the bead bypass but it didn't like that and the pump stalled over night (tried it a few times same thing happened). I have a feeling these pumps have an optimum range well within the stated range of flow rates - something to bare in mind when choosing your pump capacity.

    Blue Eco pumps

Thought I’d post an update to this thread.
I bought a couple of Blue Eco 320 pumps just under six years ago.
I recently had a problem with one of them (running very noisy and not pumping much) so I sent it back to Blue Eco (now part of SIBO) for repair.
The response? “It’s beyond repair. Shall we throw it away for you?” What the hell? No offer of anything. Literally nothing. No discount off a replacement, no repair with a contribution from me. Nothing.
So if you think you’re buying a good quality product that the manufacturer stands behind I’d think again. That certainly hasn’t been my experience.

[edit], changed 240 to 320. Sorry.

For the price of 1 Blue Eco you could have bought 3 DM Vario's and still been in warranty

The latter have a faster flow rate and are cheaper to run

    You’re absolutely right.
I used to think buy good products because the manufacturer will look after you if you have problems.
The reality is somewhat different isn’t it?
Might as well buy cheap as chips stuff like the Varios. The 30k looks nearly as powerful as a Blue Eco 320, two year warranty and under half the price!

Just realised Aqua Forte are part of SIBO so I won’t be buying one of them!

    Oh that’s definitely me!
You used to have to pay extra for run dry protection so I did.
It didn’t actually offer run dry protection in most circumstances.
I was slightly unimpressed with that and he was very unimpressed with my attitude.
I think I got some money back (maybe all of it) but I’m not sure.
There was nothing physically wrong with the pump though.

that must have been before the were involved with SIBO, I spoke the the guy in Holland regarding having the timer option iirc it would also get me access to a couple of other options, wanted around £80 but would only accept BACS payment, wouldn’t take a card, his comment went along the lines of “we are a small engineering company, factory’s do not have card facilities like shops” that’s where it ended, he went back to his treadle powered lathe, few months later SIBO were involved and the timer became FOC.

I have a 3-4 year old 320, and I remember registering, but I can’t remember if dry run protection was enabled or not. Is there anything in the controller menu that will let me know?
