    Evolution Aqua filters

I've already published in koi build diaries so I may be barking up the wrong tree but I'm looking into filters ....
I had planned a gravity system into a sieve (either Cetus of Ultrasieve iii) then pumped into a nexus 320 to a UV and then pumped back up to the top end of the pond however, what's the general consensus of the k1 microbread filters are they better than the nexus and do they improve the water clarity?

Had Cetus for years and replaced them with UltraSieve! units. I also put in the 200micron screens and sold off the off the original 300micron screens. Such a sieve is a good mechanical stage. Granted an RDF could be better, but at a far higher cost. So now on to the bio stage. Why a Nexus? I can understand doing a fluid bed bio stage...no problem with that. But you don't need the Nexus cost and footprint to do a fluid bed.

A bead filter with open media like k1 or micro K1 will not polish the water like a traditional bead filter. There is simply too much void space to let small debris pass through. The good part of an open media bead filter is that it should offer less back pressure and need a less powerful pump.

Thank for the reply, the reason for a nexus is that I used 4x 220's on some quarantine tanks when I studied fish biology back when I was at college and found them to work well with the right contact time and didn't require to much maintainable but when it comes to my own build I want to use the best possible filtration but keeping within a reasonable price limit where I don't need a second mortgage.

Just wondered what everybody's thoughts where on achieving the best water clarity whilst maintaining a good bacterial level within the filter and not having to spend a silly amount either

Hard to beat a RDF followed by a shower. For folks like me an RDF does not fit in the budget so I go from two US3 units to a FF pump to a shower as my main filter during the 9 months of our warm weather. In winter the shower is bypassed and the only filter is a bead filter on the skimmer circuit.
