    Sturgeon in filter??

    Hi all,
Im after a little bit of advice/thoughts, I have a formal pond with a bottom drain, I introduced an 8" albino sturgeon to my pond around two weeks ago, He has been swimming around the bottom of the pond without any problems and feeding well.
I checked my pond before work yesterday morning and the sturgeon was missing nowhere to be seen.
I opened the lid of my multibay filter and He was swimming around in there so obviously He has gone down the bottom drain and into the filter.
I checked again today and He was missing again I went straight to the filter and He was in the filter again.
After placing Him back into the pond i was watching him for a good while and he loves swimming around the bottom drain .

I can only predict that because I am feeding sinking pellets, by the time He find them they are sitting around the bottom drain which is why He is getting under the lid of the drain to find the food or is He just enjoying giving me heart attack every morning

Anyone else had similar problems or know of any tricks to stop him going down the drain.

Can you not adjust your bottom drain dome height so he doesn't fit any more?

i would adjust the bottom drain to only have about 1/2"-3/4" gap between the bottom and the dome.

that gap will be plenty to keep full flow and small enough to keep out noosy sturgeons

I just put 2 x 8 inch Sturgeons in the pond and have lost 1 within a week, I have 2 retro bottom drains with 6mm gap, thought they would be safe but sadly one got sucked in. Have now put the other one in a 1000ltr tank until it's bigger, gutted.

    Sorry to read this Mal

My retro drain dragged in a small frog that ended up in compact sieve

It was pretty big and nit expected did not even know it was in the pond
