    Food and species.

Just got myself 2x diamond backs. Is Orchard Fisheries the best supplier of food or is there someone else?
Also, thought I'd done a fair bit of reading up but now I've seen mention that diamond backs can lose their markings, would stellates have been a better choice as they have the same type of look (too late now but would like to know)?

    Hi Mal

Orchard fisheries food is my choice i grew a Diamond from 6 " to 24 " over Winter on there food .

A guy on there forum has 2 x massive Huso sturgeon fed on there pellet over 6 feet long as well as many other varities in there

Yes most Diamonds do lose the white Markings , the Stellys are more likely to keep there juvenile white Markings but this is not always the case imho .

I have a Stelly and i love a mature specimen with the juvenile pattern but mine is not as prominent as it was .

Having said that i was at a mates pond today and he has very large Diamonds in there the markings are long gone but they are such an imposing sturgeon and swim at all levels what they might lack in Adult Markings imho they make up for it by there presence and bulk

I'd love some growth like that, impressive. I know the purists have a thing against Sturgeon but I think they are a great addition, especially in my pond at the nursery, customers just love the fish/pond and I think the potential to have 1m plus fish will be a big talking point.

I'm starting off with this :
Kaceys Sturgeon sterlet sinking pellet food 50% High Protein 2mm 950g /koi, pond | eBay
Simply because they supplied the Sturgeon and gave me some freebies because the fish arrived a day late (they sent them late, the fish didn't spend an extra day bagged up)
    The new arrivals....

My pond is around 5400g. We have to move our nursery within 2 years, so it will be a new build and the pond will be 8000g hopefully so I will probably get a couple of Stellys as well.
