If the flow is to much on your current pump. Maybe you could install a tee arrangement with valves after the pump in order to divert some of the flow.

Could you run a separate overflow type pipe arrangement from your shower into the moving bed. Then if the 2" couldn't handle the gravity flow return, the overflow pipe would direct to filter.

If they are the type that the 2 halves screw together, then you may be able to get another half from an old valve and replace for the cut one.
