clearly less ammonia from the low fish load will produce less nitrite, conversely i am quite heavily stocked -

i've had one of those covers permanently on mine...
i've had one of those covers permanently on mine for 2 years mate, its got an opening on the top where the spray bars enter and you can just leave a little gap in the velcro
