“We are coming to investigate your suspected water leak”

Bristol water recently read my meter, and have written me a letter to say they think I have a leak and they are sending an engineer to investigate.

Do you think I should tell them in advance that there is no leak here- just a big koi pond?

I had the same this year with Severn trent water. They sent me an email saying that my water meter was being replaced as it was giving readings far higher than anyone locally. Waiting for them to come check out my supply as I put around 500ltrs a day through the pond.

Ha I’ve had the same call! Trickle in via water meter plus RDF cleaning, clearly hitting the warning level at Affinity water...unfortunately end result is more dosh...bring back the old days pre-water meters..

I've had the same call Feline from Bristol water. I didn't realise the RO would consume that much water and ultimately the cost increase. I waiting for the bill to drop through the door! Not sure what to do now, without it the ph is up around 8.4 but with it I was at 7.6. But at that amount per month I'll be switching it off I think !

How much would 500 litres a day cost I’m not on a water meter yet but will be soon

I think it’s about 70p per 1000 litres for supply and sewage combined round here (Thames Water)
You could get a reduction if you put your waste from the pond over the garden but you’ll need to check that with your water company.

I had better keep quiet, not on a meter but pay £72 a month and I thought that was bad.

I am now running pond cycling RO so the usage should be less. But if I have used it I am happy to pay for it- it's only fair. There will come a day when everyone in the UK is on a meter. At least I don't have a big shock coming in the future

Hilariously they did actually just come out

He knocked on the door and said 'I can see your meter going round'.
I took him through to the garden and showed him the 'leak'. He was quite impressed!

Wow that's cheap ...... We pay about £3.10 per 1000 litres! That's with Anglian water. Are you sure you're not looking at a rate from the 1980!

Lol, can’t remember who we are with but just checked southern water and it’s 1.31 per 1m3 supply and 2.27 disposal
Best get my pond rebate forms in quick!!

I'm just laughing this end. Not at you....with you.....more hysterical TBH.....just thinking about how much we really spend on maintaining our ponds and beautiful koi !!! Let it continue.

Utility costs are only likely to ever go up.......I wonder how many years I have before I have to sell my house and literally live in a shed next to a great koi pond.

Lol most hobbies have some kind of cost, I have a garage full of fishing tackle and my syndicate is £550 a year so a few quid extra in water is a drop in the ocean, literally.
I’m sure membership to a decent golf club would be a fair few quid.
Phhrraaa can’t take it with you eh?
When her indoors starts moaning about the water rates I’ll remind her not to put the heating on in September and stick a jumper on instead
