The output of your softener to know when to regenerate the resin.

You asked how to check how youíd know if resin needed changing.
Iím saying check the GH on the output of the softener to check.

nothing to do with r.o but I was water testing the other day and decided to raise my p.h and k.h to give more safety margin against p.h crash.
    P.h was 7-7.2, kh was 1 dh,
then after id added a few cups of bicarb over a few hour period p.h was 7.5, k.h over 2 dh but under 3 dh and g.h was 6 dh.
Now I dont profess to know much about all this hard and soft malarky, all I need to know is, am I in the ball park water wise for growing whales , the test kit said g.h should be higher, what do you think?

Personally I would of left it at PH 7-7.2
I believe the closer you can get to PH 7.0 the better with a GH of 6dh would be considered as hard water so the closer you get to 0 dh the better.
I run my pond with a KH of 0.5-1dh, GH 0.5-1dh, PH 6.9-7.0 TDS is around 60-80ppm depending on feeding.

yeah thanks, i just feeling like i was sailing a bit close to the wind with a very low k.h giving me no room for p.h buffering.

I dont understand why the Colombo kit says a g.h of 8 to 14 is ideal for a pond then tbh, I thought I was already low at g.h 6 dh, so to try to get It to zero sounds odd.

I wouldn’t worry too much with a KH of 1dh providing its monitored regularly.
I don’t think the instructions on the Colombo test kit apply when running soft water. it’s a bit like the instructions on the Kusui PP treatment “Re-dose as required to achieve a minimum total of 15 hours of purple coloured water”
