Weren’t you tempted to keep your drum or will you be going bigger and better?

A final kick in the teeth from my AEM Drum. The amalgam UV is no longer working, it might just be the tube itself, which looks blown, but there are no lights showing on the unit at all. I don't know if that is normal with these units. Luckily the person buying the unit is happy to accept a discount and sort things out himself which saves me the pleasure of dealing with AEM.

Is it fair to say you wont be purchasing another AEM in the future with all the issues you had...
Hope your new home is the start of something special.....You get what you pay for...

Seems Apbar you had a bad luck and got the "rotten egg" one.....for me it works perfectly - just exchanged the amalgam tube last weekend - after almost two years of continuous operation - now only reaching the max flow limit of it - as I would like to go higher - to say 25.000 L/h, while I can do max 20.000 - 21.000 L/h only via it - so this would be the only reason for me to upgrade - as otherwise works perfectly for me....
Good luck with your new pond - please share with us a lot of pics on your progress!

Well my AEM control panel has 2 faulty sockets on it and had to remove it and send back to the dealer for repair or replacement.
Hoping to get it back soon as had to remove the red plug so water is going straight through filter to my nexus 300.

Mine is gravity fed, but between me and springbank koi we finally got it all working.
If the float level s too high it cuts the elec supply to both of the top sockets.

Does anyone know whether you need to change the wiring in the control panel when moving from pump fed to gravity.
I thought that you just had to move the switch from the dirty side to the clean side and turn it the opposite way up but the person I sold my drum to contacted me to say that it isn't working.
Apparently the float switch still needs to move up to work and the only thing I can think of is that wires need reversed inside the unit
Any help appreciated

I have the gravity fed version with the float switch in the clean side. but the float switch controls power to the top 2 sockets and it seems to be very hit and miss getting float level spot on.
It either operates the high pressure pump continuesly or only cleans about once an hour, you also need to make sure float switch is not touching side of drum or the side of case as its very tight in there.
When the float witch operates power come on to the uv light and the pond pump but as soon as float switch stops power is cut to uv and pump.

Float switch on pump fed should be on the dirty side. As drum blocks water level rises and should trigger cleaning cycle.

I have a gravity fed pond setup. Water flows out of the pond through the RDF and into a sump - all under the force of gravity. ianoak999 is correct when he says it is hit and miss getting the float switch to operate the drum at the correct times in a full gravity set up. I have actually now taken the water feed for the pump out of the RDF clean and into a separate box which holds a lot of water. My RDF pump when it was working intermittently sucked most of the water out of the clean side so the RDF did not stop until it reached the failsafe low level of water. This could empty thousands of litres out of the pond. It has been going fine over the winter but the margin for error is fractions of a millimetre. My plan is to move the float to the dirty side of the RDF (in the warmer weather).

Mines been working fine for over a year. However, as others have said, the float is very very hit & miss. If there was one aspect that could do with improvement that would be it.
Anyone know if other drums have similar problems, or if there’s a way to replace the AEM float system with something better?

I must say that after initial setting up tweaks my AEM has worked fine currently cleaning @ roughly 15 min intervals. (Gravity set up )
