Anoxic filter members
Just wondered how people who have just started anoxic filters this year and have them planted how are the plants going some of mine seem a bit slow but others are thriving
I take it the baskets are now working as I'm feeding a lot more than last yr I've got a lot more lg koi as well and amonia nitrate and nitrite are all spot on
My only problem is the blanket weed but I'm working on that too a couple of pics of the planted filter some of the flowers are just starting to appear hopefully we will get a good bloom in a month or so

I know it is hard to do but just be patient and the filter will reward you in the end. My water lily plants are already blooming in my AFS and water temps are about 68 F now. Anoxicfiltrationsystem.blogspot.com

i must say since mine is in a box and no plants its doing very well. nitrate is down to 40ppm same as the tap water. and as no light is getting in no weed or algae at all. but it has take some time to get to where it is now.

I've got 6 plants in mine. My smallest lilly has shot up with 4more leave poking out from the base. My bigger lilly I only put in this weekend.
I only have 4 baskets in right now, I need to get some more cat litter, laterite is in the shed already. I should get 18 or 24 baskets in.
Tony.

I'd love to know why we're all getting the blanket weed in anoxic filters (except Vince!).
I'd have expected that if they're reducing the nitrate so much there'd be no weed but they seem to attract it for some reason.
Even my little floating anoxic filters had a horrible build up of blanket weed on them until I added the shower.

String algae grows very well in our ponds on phosphate. Phosphate is contained in all Koi foods in greater than required amounts. Tap water can also contain phosphates so water changes can introduce more !! I have over 2.5mg/l out of the tap which is another reason to only top up with RO.
