Diy rotary drum filter
Hi,
Anyone with a drum filter could you tell me/show how the drum is sealed around its outer body to prevent solids bypassing the drum .
ive tried a car boot seal but drum has too much friction on the seal and lifts up.

Hi
Traditional method is silicone strip, getting the right tension can take a little playing, I found that having the drum ring at a diameter of 4-5 mm smaller than the seal gave the best results with the seal sitting inside the drum ring.

My take was that the designers of drums such as profi had spent a lot of time coming up with an efficient engineering solution.
Think your drum need to be a bit shorter and a strip added on the inside to provided a surface for the seal.
The housing could be padded out so that the difference in diameter between this and that of the inside of the drum were reduced from what they are now.
Its one reason I mocked up in mdf first as it is the critical element.
You are close I think.

i think im close too,
,
drum size is 380mm dia x 480mm long im hoping for 20k litres per hour flow with just under half the drum submerged , motor is 24v 10kg worm drive works a treat. just not with the seal so tight .
yes the drum was going to be cut down
how does your silicone strip seal inside the drum ?

that looks like an evolution answer to me.?
yer that helps thanks alot ive seen another way and decided last night to try it , ordered the seal car boot seal with a leaf/flap 25mm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Small-Ver...72.m2749.l2649
from viewing this filter seems the easiest thing to do with current setup .

Lol. yes that was a bit of playing with an old answer,
The radial seal in the video looks a viable option, As ever sourcing the ideal parts is often the hardest thing in a "one off" there are a couple of seal manufacturers that seem to have a massive range of different profiles and materials,if you don't have any luck with the car boot seal then worth a look. Will see if I can find a link

thanks Dave,
as long as it works thats all that matters.
I still need to cut out the internal stainless steel divider wall as its warped from welding, I should of tack welded in place only then glued in place
make a new piece , position it and trial the new seal when it arrives just as ive typed this its arrived by local postie lol
I couldn't find those types of silicone strips with different profiles you mention , im aiming for my new seal to just kiss the wall
just inspecting the replacement seal , its nearly as flexible as the one in the video, and no where near grippy like the old one, ive got a good vibe this will work
