    Floating retaining net

Has anybody diy’d a floating net like the ones sold for inspecting fish? I’m looking at it as a possible alternative for raising fry within the pond, what I had in mind was some sort of pipework frame with very fine mesh attached,I’m unsure of what size/material of mesh I’d need for pretty much newborn fry? And also how to attach in a way that’s there’s no holes?

For hatching you really need 0.5mm mesh, much larger and you will get escapees, after about a week after swim up you can just about squeak by with 1.5mm mesh.

All depends on whether you can get the material and how good you are with the sewing machine! I use the Norfine cage nets as the sewing skills in our household are rubbish

Tried this a few years ago, it worked for a while then the net clogged. I used 32mm pipe for the frame and the net was stitched together.

the 32mm pipe idea was exactly what I had in mind,I've plenty of pipe and fittings so other than the netting it'd cost me very little.

As as for the sewing,I wouldn't have a clue either! But my mum would probably be able to sort that for me no problem.Ive had a quick look at the norfine nets and to be honest they are pretty much exactly what I have in mind but im doing this to a pretty tight/non existent budget so if I can come up with something diy I'll go for that

I already have the fry,at present they are in a glass aquarium in my garage, hatched about 2 weeks ago
